MATCH DETAILS : Kerala Blasters spoiled Chennaiyin FC’s desires of finishing the season on a high after holding them to a thrilling 1-1 draw in the Hero Indian Super League at GMC Stadium, Bambolim, on Sunday. Fatkhulo Fatkhulloev gave Chennaiyin a lead in the 10th minute which was cancelled out by Gary Hooper’s 29th-minute goal from the spot. Csaba Laszlo’s side finished the season with 20 points from 20 games.

21/02/2021 (ISL : MATCH-102) : KERALA BLASTERS 1-1 CHENNAIYIN FC

Chennaiyin got off to an electrifying start and created numerous chances in the opening minutes of the match. Anirudh Thapa fired a shot in the first minute forcing Kerala keeper Albino Gomes into an early save.

After nearly creating half-a dozen chances, the Marina Machans were successful in breaking the deadlock. Bakary Kone’s header fell to Edwin Vanspaul, who played it over the left flank to find Fatkhulloev. The forward cut inside before unleashing a powerful strike that beat Gomes.

Chennaiyin almost scored their second but Enes Sipovic saw his header hit the crossbar. Kerala gained momentum in the second quarter and during this period, they pressed their opponents high, putting them pressure. After sustaining a good spell in Chennaiyin territory, Kerala earned a penalty when Deepak Tangri was the culprit of handling the ball in the area. Hooper ensured he converted the spot-kick to get his team of level terms.

Hooper nearly put his team ahead before the break. Lalruatthara diverted Jeakson Singh's lobbed pass into the path of Hooper at the edge of the box. However, his chip shot sailed over the crossbar. The second half saw more balanced play as both teams had identical possession and passes. They matched each other with a much relaxed game plan. Though there were chances being created, it was Vishal Kaith coming with a crucial save to keep the scoreline level.

Hooper’s cross at the farpost found Jordan Murray whose header was parried away by Kaith. Chennaiyin were reduced to 10 men after Sipovic got his marching orders. Prasanth Karuthadathkuni swiveled away from Sipovic. The defender unwittingly stamped Prasanth's foot and the referee deemed that to be bad enough for a second yellow.

Having numerical advantage, Kerala kept searching for the match-winner. Jessel Carneiro struck a goal-bound shot from a distance, but Kaith’s brilliance denied the ball from entering the goal. Chennaiyin defended well in the final few minutes of the game to end their season with a draw.

MATCH REPORT - ISL : The race for the Hero Indian Super League playoffs took another twist as NorthEast United FC were held to a thrilling 3-3 draw by Chennaiyin FC at the GMC Stadium, Bambolim, on Thursday.

Three teams – Hyderabad FC, FC Goa and NorthEast — are tied on 27 points from 18 games, intensifying the race for the last two playoff spots. When it looked like Chennaiyin would inflict a first defeat on Khalid Jamil this season, Luis Machado scored a stoppage-time equaliser to extend their unbeaten run to seven games. Chennaiyin were in the lead through goals from Lallianzuala Chhangte (8', 52') and Manuel Lanzarote (50') while Imran Khan (14') and Deshorn Brown (43') had replied for NorthEast.

18/02/2021 (ISL : Match-98) :CHENNAIYIN FC - 3-3 - NORTH EAST UNITED

Csaba Laszlo had made his intent to attack clear during the pre-match press conference and his side delivered early in the game with an eighth-minute lead. After a miserable season in front of the goal, Chhangte finally found his scoring boots as he put his side ahead. Jakub Sylvestr picked up Chhangte with an accurate pass from the left and the latter took a touch before firing past Subhasish Roy.

However, it took the Highlanders just six minutes to get back into the game. Luis Machado played a low cross which took a deflection and fell to Imran Khan, who headed in. Chennaiyin were rescued by Kaith’s brilliance when he came up with a double save to deny Machado and Brown from close in quick succession. At the other end, NorthEast United had the framework to thank. Roy fumbled Manuel Lanzarote’s freekick from outside the box, but the ball deflected off his back and hit the post, before being cleared away.

The Highlanders finally took the lead from a quick counter. Chhangte lost possession outside the NorthEast box and Khassa Camara played a long ball which found Brown. He won the battle against Enes Sipovic before slamming the ball into the back of the net. The Highlanders nearly doubled their lead soon after the restart. Machado delivered a perfect free-kick into the six-yard area which was met by Suhair Vadakkepeedika, but Kaith produced yet another save.

At the other end, Chennaiyin won a penalty when Ashutosh Mehta brought down Chhangte inside the box forcing the referee to point towards the spot. Lanzarote sent the keeper the wrong way to restore parity. Chhangte then scored his second and put Chennaiyin ahead again. Edwin Vanspaul found Chhangte outside the box. His effort took a deflection off Benjamin Lambot before entering the goal.

NorthEast kept pressing for the equaliser but were denied by Kaith’s brilliance. However, Chennaiyin’s hero soon turned villain, giving away a penalty in stoppage time when he brought down Idrissa Sylla in the box. Machado kept his composure to convert the spot-kick.

MATCH DETAILS - ISL : There were just a few minutes left in the game and Goa needed a goal. There was no doubt as to who everybody's eyes were on. And Ishan Pandita duly delivered!

The youngster's fourth goal of the season handed FC Goa a point as they held Chennaiyin FC to a 2-2 draw at the GMC Stadium in Bambolim in the Hero Indian Super League on Saturday. It continued Pandita's incredible run — his four goals came from bit-part roles over seven games. The draw was Goa's sixth draw in a row and moved them to third place past Hyderabad FC.

13/02/2021 (I-LEAGUE) : CHENNAIYIN FC - 2-2 - FC GOA

It was Chennaiyin who started stronger, failing to take advantage of a couple of early chances. But just when it looked like their profligacy in front of goal was going to cost them, Chennaiyin took the lead.

It was Reagan Singh who paved the way for the goal with some great work down the right wing. He found Jakub Sylvestr through an army of Goa defenders, who took a couple of touches before finding an excellent finish despite losing his balance and going to the ground.

Chennaiyin's lead lasted less than six minutes. Goa went looking for the equaliser and were awarded a penalty. Eli Sabia, while rivalling Igor Angulo to get to a cross only managed to do so with his hand and the referee promptly pointed to the spot. There was some drama as Angulo slotted home the penalty only for the referee to order him to retake it. But the Spaniard made no mistake the second time as he dragged his team back to level terms.

Despite conceding, Chennaiyin mustered up enough resolve to go on the attack again and it was them who fashioned the better chances in the first half. The best of them came right before the halftime whistle as Sylvestr hit the woodwork, despite only having Goa keeper Dheeraj Singh to beat.

Chennaiyin's endeavour yielded fruits in the second half as they retook the lead. But the goal did not make for good viewing for Goa fans as it came from confusion between Dheeraj and his defenders. The young keeper came out for the ball only to run into one of his defenders. The ball found its way to an unmarked Lallianzuala Chhangte who made no mistake from close range.

It looked like Goa would rue that mistake as the match progressed into injury time without them looking like finding an equaliser. However, then came Pandita with his knack for scoring late goals.

MATCH DETAILS - ISL : An injury-time own goal from Enes Sipovic proved to be the difference as Jamshedpur FC edged Chennaiyin FC 1-0 at the GMC Stadium in Bambolim in the Hero Indian Super League on Wednesday. Jamshedpur did not register a single shot on target, compared to Chennaiyin’s four but still ended on the winning side. The result lifted Owen Coyle's team to the sixth spot while Chennaiyin stayed eighth.

The opening half proved to be a cagey contest with both sides displaying great defensive organization. Chennaiyin started bright and fashioned chances but failed to convert them again. Jamshedpur eventually grew into the game but lacked incision in the attacking third.

10/02/2021 (ISL : Match 89) : CHENNAIYIN FC - 0-1 - JAMSHEDPUR FC

Jamshedpur keeper TP Rehenesh was called into action early on, forcing a fine save from Lallianzuala Chhangte. The youngster received the ball from Memo Moura on the left and cut inside before curling his shot towards the far post. However, his effort was parried away by Rehenesh, who displayed great awareness.

Chennaiyin created their next big chance of the game around the half-hour mark but Jamshedpur’s defence stood tall. Chhangte was again involved as he slid a pass into the box from the left. An onrushing Rahim Ali hit it first time but Ricky Lallawmawma put his body on the line to deny Chennaiyin.

Minutes later, Reagan Singh was set through on goal before a last-ditch block from Stephen Eze meant Chennaiyin squandered another chance. The second half was a see-saw game of football and Jamshedpur came out stronger after the break. They created two big openings before the hour mark but Alexandre Lima and David Grande both failed to keep their shots on target.

Both sides failed to create much until the dying stages, where there was a lot of drama in store. The best chance of the game fell to Chennaiyin when Thoi Singh was released into the box and had a chance to score but played a cut-back to Chhangte, which was intercepted.

That miss would haunt them as Jamshedpur would find the winner in fortuitous fashion.Receiving the ball on the right, Grande cut inside on his left foot before launching a fierce strike that took a deflection of Sipovic before trickling into the back of the net, leaving Chennaiyin coach Csaba Laszlo in disbelie.

MATCH REPORT - ISL : Chennaiyin FC’s chances of progressing into the top four received a huge blow following their frustrating goalless draw against Bengaluru FC in the Hero Indian Super League at Fatorda Stadium, on Friday. Coach Csaba Laszlo's side put up a spirited performance but their misfiring attack just couldn’t get past Bengaluru keeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu, who was kept on his toes throughout the match.

05/02/2021 (ISL : Match 83) : BENGALURU FC - 0-0 - CHENNAIYIN FC

BFC interim coach Naushad Moosa rang in two changes to his Bengaluru side which won against SC East Bengal as Erik Paartalu and Parag Srivas were given starts. Manuel Lanzarote was handed his debut for Chennaiyin as Anirudh Thapa and Enes Sipovic returned. Chennaiyin bossed possession and dominated the first session, forcing Gurpreet into action on numerous occasions.

In the second session, Chennaiyin continued their hunt for the goal. Lanzarote nearly scored from a set-piece but the BFC custodian managed to get a fingertip save onto the crossbar. Bengaluru managed to get the ball in the back of the net, but their celebrations were cut short when the referee disallowed the goal. Xisco Hernandez picked Francisco Gonzalez at the back post, and he headed into the back of the net. But the assistant referee had raised his flag.

The BFC post had more action with Gurpreet exerting yet again. The India international pulled off another diving save to deny Chhangte late in the game. Chennaiyin nearly took the lead when Memo Moura's 30-yard free-kick and it was the woodwork that came to Bengaluru’s rescue.

MATCH REPORT- ISL : Hyderabad FC did their chances of making the Hero Indian Super League playoffs a world of good with a 2-0 victory over Chennaiyin FC at the Tilak Maidan Stadium, here on Sunday.

Goals from Fran Sandaza (28') and Joel Chianese (82’) were enough to secure all three points for the Nizams and propel them to third place on the table.

31/01/2021 (MATCH 77: ISL) : HYDERBAD FC - 2-0 - CHENNAIYIN FC

Hyderabad made their intentions clear right from the start, winning a corner in just the fifth minute. The promising Asish Rai, who has enjoyed something of a breakthrough season, was the architect of the move, sprinting into the Chennaiyin box and finding Mohammed Yasir. After the latter's cross was put behind for a corner, Rai got another chance but sent his cross over.

Hyderabad kept attacking in the first quarter and they got their reward just before the half-hour mark when Sandaza broke the deadlock. After receiving the ball from a throw-in, the Spaniard found Joao Victor, who returned the favour with an excellent through ball. Sandaza was still under pressure from Deepak Tangri but shook off the defender by shifting the ball onto his other foot and slotting it into the back of the net.

Chennaiyin had a period of possession after the goal but poor passing in the final third meant nothing came of it. As the first half came to a close, Sandaza's goal was the only shot on target from either team.

Chennaiyin came out of the half-time break with a couple of changes — Fatkhulo Fatkhulloev and Edwin Vanspaul came on for Germanpreet Singh and Thoi Singh — and the move looked to have paid off immediate dividends. Eli Sabia came up all the way from defence and found himself with a direct sight on goal. His powerful shot from outside the box looked to be going in, but instead struck the crossbar and bounced away.

The crossbar once again came to Hyderabad's rescue and this time, it was substitute Fatkhulloev's turn to rue what should have been a goal.

Hyderabad looked resigned to sitting back and defending as Chennaiyin went from being having less of the ball in the first half to dominating possession in the second. However, their lack of creativity and wastefulness in front of goal was on show once again — with ten minutes left in the game, they managed just a single shot on goal.

They soon paid for that when Hyderabad put the game beyond all doubt with a second goal. Chianese, who had replaced goalscorer Sandaza early in the second half, was played through by another excellent pass from Victor. Chianese had only a narrow target to aim at but he found the back of the net with ease.

MATCH REPORT - ISL : A terrible late error in the box by Ahmed Jahouh rewarded Chennai’s perseverance and an improved second-half display as they held Mumbai City FC to a 1-1 draw in the Hero Indian Super League at the GMC Stadium, Bambolim on Monday. However, the result meant the Islanders extended their unbeaten run to 12 games, matching FC Goa's record.

Mumbai grabbed the lead through Bartholomew Ogbeche (21') but his goal was canceled out by Esmael Goncalves (76') as Chennaiyin rallied to earn a hard-fought point.

25/01/21 (ISL: M-71) : CHENNAIYIN FC - 1-1 - MUMBAI CITY FC

The opening 45 minutes were nothing short of entertainment with both sides creating ample chances and testing each other. However, Mumbai proved more clinical than their opponents in the attacking third and deservedly led at the break.

Chennaiyin dominated the opening exchanges and created a chance as early as the second minute. Goncalves won the ball in midfield and played Thoi Singh on the right flank, whose cross was flicked by Mourtada Fall just outside the box. It fell towards Lallianzuala Chhangte who unleashed a shot on his weaker foot which was parried away by Amrinder Singh.

Another chance went begging for Chennaiyin, this time from a set-piece. Chhangte whipped a dangerous cross through a corner for Eli Sabia, who got a free header but saw his effort sail over the crossbar. Those missed opportunities would haunt Chennaiyin as Mumbai broke the deadlock. The Islanders have scored the most goals from set-pieces this season and opened the scoring in a similar fashion.

After Amey Ranawade's throw was cleared away poorly, Rowllin Borges found Bipin Singh on the left. The winger delivered a delicious cross at the far post for Ogbeche, who thumped a brilliant header to notch his fifth goal of the season. That was his 32nd Hero ISL goal as he overtook Marcelinho to climb to third on the all-time scoring charts.

Chennaiyin began the second half strongly in search of an equaliser but neither side was able to fashion clear-cut chances as the game progressed. However, they were fortunate to win a penalty after an error from Ahmed Jahouh. The midfielder was deemed to have tripped Jakub Sylvestr in the box. Goncalves stepped up to take the spot-kick and sent Amrinder the wrong way to draw Chennaiyin level.

Mumbai piled on the pressure in the last quarter of the game but Chennaiyin's defense stood tall to deny their opponents any chance of finding a winner.

WIN IS IMPORTANT THAN TO SCORE A GOAL: EDU GRACIA

20.1.21: ATK Mohun Bagan will play against Chennaiyin FC on an important encounter on Thursday night. After wasting five valuable points in the last two matches against Mumbai City FC and FC Goa the Mariners are desperate to earn full points against Chennaiyin FC on their 12th outing.

ATK Mohun Bagan are placed at the second position in the league with 21 points from 11 matches.

Edu Gracia, one of the important member of Antonio Habas’s Brigade are confident for a win on Thursday evening. In a discussion with ATK Mohun Bagan media he said,"The most important thing for me is not the goal, but the victory of the team. It is a joy to score a good goal but the honour is when the team wins. However, I would have been much happier if we could win the match against Goa.”

Edu Gracia looked quite optimistic against Chennaiyin FC as he said, “We lost five points with two teams that are the best two clubs in this competition. Nevertheless, we are in second place in the league table. I dont want to think about what happened in the previous matches. Chennai match is ahead. We are thinking of winning it. We want to go match by match. They are strong enough but we have confidence in our team’s strength.”

ATK Mohun Bagan had conceded only 5 goals in 11 matches. While interacting Gracia said "The ball has entered our goal only 5 times in 11 matches. That’s a good aspect of our team. If the aim is intact, the team's confidence increases. However, there are shortcomings in scoring. We still haven't scored goals like last year. This is the part that the team needs improvement.” The two times champions, Chennaiyin FC are on the 6th position in the league table 15 points to their credit.

MATCH REPORT - ISL : Their first clash in this season's Hero Indian Super League on Sunday may have ended in a goalless draw, but Chennaiyin FC's encounter against Odisha FC at the GMC Stadium on Wednesday wasn't short of goals.

After struggling for goals all season, Csaba Laszlo's men turned on the style against Odisha, scoring two in the opening quarter of the game. Portuguese forward Esmael Goncalves opened the scoring in the 15th minute, before putting Chennaiyin two-up by converting a penalty in the 21st minute. However, a Diego Mauricio screamer in the 64h minute gave Odisha hope but Chennaiyin held on for a 2-1 win, which lifted them all the way to fifth place.

13.01.21 ( ISL : M-57) : ODISHA FC 1-2 CHENNAIYIN FC

Goncalves had the chance to put his team ahead in the fifth minute when he got in behind the Odisha defence, but with only keeper Arshdeep Singh to beat, he blasted his chance over. However, he made amends for that ten minutes later with a well-taken goal. Gaurav Bora failed to deal with a long ball from Rahim Ali and it fell towards Goncalves, who did not make a mistake this time.

Before Odisha had the chance to react to going behind, Chennaiyin doubled their lead. Bora was again at fault, hacking down Anirudh Thapa in the box. Goncalves stepped up to take the spot-kick and sent Arshdeep the wrong way. Chennaiyin defended well after securing a comfortable lead as Odisha struggled to fashion clear-cut chances. The closest they got in the first half was in the 37th minute when Manuel Onwu found himself with the ball at his feet and a sight on goal, but his shot was wide.

With a couple of early inroads into the Odisha box, Chennaiyin looked the team likelier to score. However, Mauricio, who replaced Marcelo Pereira at halftime, had other plans as he pulled one back for his team in spectacular fashion with a long-range curler. Chennaiyin had a great opportunity to restore their lead late on when Lallianzuala Chhangte, after an excellent run, squared the ball to substitute Thoi Singh. However, the veteran, despite only having the keeper to beat, failed to get his shot on target.

Odisha almost took advantage of this in the 85th minute when Daniel Lalhlimpuia managed to get a shot in from just outside the box. However, keeper Vishal Kaith pulled off an excellent diving save. Odisha piled on the pressure in the closing minutes but were unable to find the equaliser.

MATCH REPORT - ISL : In what was a cagey affair with both teams missing accuracy, Odisha FC and Chennaiyin FC played out a goalless draw at the GMC Stadium here on Sunday.

The game, which essentially served as the first leg of a double-header as both teams will meet again on Wednesday, saw both teams failing to convert clear-cut chances. That Odisha had only three shots on target while Chennaiyin managed just two (of the twelve shots they took) exemplified how much both sides cancelled out each other. Chennaiyin, the better side in terms of possession, though had a couple of chances to get a winner but their forwards were unable to net them.

10.01.21 ( ISL : M-53) : CHENNAIYIN FC - 0-0 - ODISHA FC

It was Chennaiyin who dominated the opening exchanges, creating multiple chances in the opening quarter. They had their first big chance during the second minute, but Rahim Ali failed to put his team up ahead. A long ball found him through on goal with only Odisha keeper Arshdeep Singh to beat. But his final touch was too heavy and allowed Arshdeep to come out and smother the ball.

In the 14th minute, Lallianzuala Chhangte received the ball from Anirudh Thapa and drilled in a low shot, but it only struck the side netting. The first half got increasingly aggressive with both teams committing a number of fouls. Chennaiyin earned two yellow cards for their efforts, Enes Sipovic and Jerry Lalrinzuala going into the referee book.

Odisha thought they had the lead as the half drew to a close. Diego Mauricio headed in a cross from Cole Alexander, only for the linesman to signal for offside. Then, with what was one of the last kicks of the half, Jakub Sylvestr had a great chance to find the opening goal. Reagan Singh found him in the box and Sylvestr was able to direct it towards the post, only for Arshdeep to pull off another vital save. The Odisha keeper was in top form throughout the first half and was a major reason why both teams went in goalless at the break.

The second half started with Chhangte getting in behind the Odisha defence yet again and finding the side netting for the second time. In the 71st minute, Ali wasted another great chance. A mistake by Steven Taylor left the youngster with only Arshdeep to beat again. This time he managed to do that but struck his shot against the post. The last ten minutes of the game was mostly played out in Odisha's half as Chennaiyin pushed for a winner. However, the Odisha defence stood firm and the match finished goalless.

MATCH REPORT - ISL : Hyderabad FC returned to winning ways in the Hero Indian Super League as they registered a thumping 4-1 victory against Chennaiyin FC at the GMC Stadium, Bambolim on Monday.

Joel Chianese (50'), Halicharan Narzary (53', 79') and Joao Victor (74') were on the scoresheet for Hyderabad while Anirudh Thapa (67') scored the only goal for Chennaiyin, who suffered their first-ever defeat against the Nizams. The first half proved to be an entertaining, end-to-end contest with both goalkeepers finding themselves busy. Hyderabad created better chances but were guilty of missing them.

04/01/2021 : (ISL : M-47) : CHENNAIYIN FC -- 1 - 4 -- HYDERABAD FC

Chennaiyin goalkeeper Vishal Kaith was called into action early in the opening minute. Aridane Santana received a long ball and flicked it towards Chianese, who made a run in the box and fired a shot, but saw his effort blocked by Kaith. Another chance went begging for the Nizams in the 10th minute as Chianese missed a gilt-edged opportunity through a free-kick. Narzary swung a cross towards the far post and Chianese missed an open header after Deepak Tangri failed to clear it away.

Chennaiyin also tested Hyderabad. They had the chance to draw first blood in the 31st minute but Laxmikant Kattimani made a fine save. Lallianzuala Chhangte made his way into the box from the left and cut inside, only to see his shot saved by Kattimani. At the other end, Kaith produced an excellent save in the dying minutes of the first half to keep the scoreline goalless. After parrying away Asish Rai's cross, Kaith denied Chianese at point-blank range. The ball fell to Rai again, whose shot rattled the woodwork.

Hyderabad registered a three-minute double early on in the second half. A mix-up from Chennaiyin's backline gave them the opener. Kaith and Eli Sabia made a mess of a chipped pass from Santana, allowing Chianese to score his maiden Hero ISL goal. Three minutes later, Hyderabad doubled their tally. They won a corner and did well to keep the ball in the box before Rahim Ali's clearance fell towards Nazary. The winger launched a cracking shot that struck the underside of the crossbar before heading into goal.

Chennaiyin reduced their deficit after a blunder from Kattimani who fluffed his lines while attempting to clear Ali's cross into the box, allowing Thapa an easy tap-in. But Hyderabad soon restored their two-goal lead through Victor, who buried his shot into the top corner after receiving a pass from Rai.

Chennaiyin's defense was exposed again as they pushed for a late goal. Substitute Fran Sandaza released Narzary, who made his way from near the half-way line, into the box and produced a neat finish.

REPORT - ISL : Chennaiyin FC finally managed to register a win after five games, with 2-1 victory over FC Goa in the Hero Indian Super League at Fatorda Stadium, Goa, on Saturday. In a game that saw 39 shots at goal, Rahim Ali (53’) scored the match-winner after Jorge Ortiz (9’) cancelled out Rafael Crivellaro’s (5’) olympic-goal opener.

19.12.20 (ISL - Match 33) : FC GOA 1-2 CHENNAIYIN FC

Chennaiyin FC fired warning shots early in the game. Thapa made a darting run on the right and cut the ball back to an unmarked Crivellaro. The latter’s first-time shot was pushed behind by Mohammad Nawaz. The visitors were soon ahead in the game and it came from a moment of individual brilliance. Crivellaro got his corner-kick to loop over the Goa defenders and land in goal.

But the lead lasted for just four minutes as the Gaurs came up with an instant response in the 9th minute. Ortiz found Alexander Jesuraj on the right who squared the ball back to the Spaniard. His shot found the roof of the net.

The visitors had yet another chance to go ahead in the game just before the break. But Chhangte failed to keep his composure in front of the goal. Raegen’s effort from left was saved by Nawaz but the ball fell to an unmarked Chhangte who once again failed to direct his shot at goal, leaving Laszlo in agony on the touchline.

Chennaiyin finally got their deserved lead in the 53rd minute when Crivellaro kept his composure in beating Donachie before playing a low cross at the far post where second-half substitute Rahim Ali had little work to tap the ball into empty net.

ISL MEDIA: NorthEast United only managed to grab a point but extended their unbeaten run in the Hero Indian Super League Season 7 as they drew 0-0 with Chennaiyin FC at Tilak Maidan Stadium, here on Sunday.
The Highlanders, with 10 points alongside ATK Mohun Bagan, are placed second in the Hero ISL table while Chennaiyin FC have now failed to pick up a win in their last four matches.

13/12/2020 : (ISL: M-26) NORTH EAST UNITED FC -- 0-0 --- CHENNAIYIN FC

NorthEast United made three changes to the side as Idrissa Sylla started upfront ahead of Kwesi Appiah. Meanwhile, Chennaiyin made two changes to their line-up with Anirudh Thapa among the substitutes.

The first-half was a goalless affair. Chennaiyin shaded possession but both sides lacked the cutting edge in the final third. NorthEast keeper Gurmeet Singh was called into action early on as Chennaiyin created a chance as early as the first minute. Lallianzuala Chhangte received a long ball from Jakub Sylvestr in the box but his shot was carried away by Gurmeet. Five minutes later, Edwin Vanspaul had another opportunity to put Chennaiyin ahead. The midfielder pounced on a loose ball following a clearance, only to see his effort narrowly miss the far post.

NorthEast too had their chances and in the 18th minute, nearly came close to breaking the deadlock. Benjamin Lambot, unmarked in the box, won a free header from a corner but failed to place his effort on target. Another big opportunity went begging for the Highlanders in the 38th minute, again coming through a set-piece. Luis Machado whipped a teasing cross into the box from a corner for Dylan Fox, who only managed to fire his effort over the crossbar.

Both teams began the second half with intent. The Highlanders created a clear-cut chance in the 55th minute only to be denied by Chennaiyin keeper Vishal Kaith. VP Suhair received the ball on the left flank and fired a cross into the box for Sylla, whose powerful shot was tipped over the crossbar. Chhangte had another opportunity to score the opener before the hour mark. After receiving the ball on the rebound after a save from Gurmeet, the winger placed his effort over the bar from close range.

However, the best chance of the game arrived during the 66th minute and NorthEast should have taken the lead. Substitute Rochharzela split the Chennaiyin defense with a lovely through ball for Sylla. The striker, with only Kaith to beat, poked his shot inches wide of the post.
Gerard Nus' side continued to threaten Csaba Laszlo's men towards the dying minutes of the game but failed to find a winner.

REPORT : Mumbai City FC came from behind to inflict a 2-1 defeat on Chennaiyin FC in the Hero Indian Super League at the GMC Stadium, Goa, on Wednesday to reach top of the table now with 12 points.

Adam Le Fondre smashed in a 75th-minute winner after Hernan Santana (45’) had canceled Jakub Sylvestr’s first goal. The result saw Sergio Lobera's team win their fourth game in a row and maintain their spot atop the Hero ISL table.

Csaba Laszlo opted for a double change to the team that lost to Bengaluru FC. Fatkhullo Fatkhulloev and Germanpreet Singh started the game for Chennaiyin FC in place of Esmael Goncalves and Anirudh Thapa.

Just when it looked like Chennaiyin would walk into the breather with a goal advantage, Mumbai’s Santana had different plans. The Spaniard, who was unmarked at the far post, nodded in a Hugo Boumous’ corner to restore parity. The intensity dropped after the restart but Chennaiyin continued to test Mumbai’s defence. However, Mourtada Fall and keeper Amrinder Singh were at their best in the second half.

Mumbai doubled the lead in the 75th minute through another set-piece. Ahmed Jahouh’s long free-kick was flicked in by Rowllin Borges to Boumous. The Frenchman headed into the path of Le Fondre, who finished from close range. Chennaiyin nearly scored an equaliser in stoppage time, but Sylvestr’s header narrowly went wide.

REPORT - ISL : Bengaluru FC got their first win of the season, notching up a 1-0 victory in a heated affair with arch-rivals Chennaiyin FC in the Hero Indian Super League Season 7 at the GMC Stadium, here on Friday. A 56th-minute penalty by Sunil Chhetri was the difference between the two teams as Chennaiyin suffered their first loss of the season.

Chennaiyin made just the one change to the eleven that drew with Kerala Blasters as Jerry Lalrinzuala replaced Chhuantea. Bengaluru coach Carles Cuadrat made three changes — Kristian Opseth, Udanta Singh and Fran Gonzalez were replaced by Deshorn Brown, Dimas Delgado and Rahul Bheke.

The match was off to a physical start with Anirudh Thapa left limping in the fifth minute after a clash of heels with Ashique Kuruniyan. The latter picked up a yellow two minutes later for going in rough on Deepak Tangri. Then came a big blow for Chennaiyin. Thapa had initially continued after his clash with Kuruniyan, but by the 16th minute, he was asking to come off. Chennaiyin coach Csaba Laszlo had to replace him with Edwin Vanspaul.

Bengaluru began to take the upper-hand after Thapa's exit. Around the half-hour mark, Cleiton Silva found Bheke unmarked inside the box, but his header was off target. Seven minutes later, Juanan had a chance to head in from Silva's cross, but only managed to divert it into Chennaiyin keeper Vishal Kaith's hands.

The second period started with a flurry of fouls, freekicks and yellow cards. Rafael Crivellaro, Suresh Wangjam and Reagan Singh went into the book early on while both teams wasted freekicks from good positions. However, in the 54th minute, Chennaiyin committed one foul too much. Vanspaul lunged into Silva inside the box and the referee pointed to the spot. Kaith guessed correctly and dived to his right, but Chhetri's penalty was inch-perfect. Bengaluru nearly had their second in the 60th minute when a powerful long-ranger from Delgado looked to be going in. Kaith, however, got the slightest of touches to it, diverting the ball from its path.

Laszlo responded to the goal by throwing on Fatkhullo Fatkhulloev and the Tajik nearly scored the equaliser, unleashing a volley off Jerry's cross only for Bengaluru keeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu to block it. Chennaiyin thought they had a penalty in the 69th minute after Crivellaro's header struck Kuruniyan's hand on the way out. But referee Rahul Kumar Gupta instead pointed to a corner. Chennaiyin dominated the final period, searching frantically for an equaliser. But they were unable to find a finish to the many chances they created as Bengaluru held on for the win.

REPORT - ISL : Albino the hero as Kerala rescue point against Chennaiyin Kerala Blasters held Chennaiyin FC to a goalless draw courtesy a superb penalty save from Albino Gomes in their Hero Indian Super League encounter at the GMC Stadium, here on Sunday. Chennaiyin named an unchanged side from their opening win against Jamshedpur FC. Meanwhile, Kerala made three changes with Denechandra Meitei being handed his Hero ISL debut.

The first half remained goalless with either side failing to fashion clear-cut opportunities. Chennaiyin were the dominant side but weren’t clinical in the final third. Kerala goalkeeper Albino Gomes was called into action early on, in the third minute, saving a free-kick from Rafael Crivellaro.

29.11.2020 : (ISL: M-11) CHENNAIYIN FC 0-0 KERALA BLASTERS FC

However, a blunder from Gomes almost handed Csaba Laszlo’s side the lead. The Kerala keeper fumbled while trying to clear the ball inside the 18-yard box. Bakary Kone made a vital clearance to save Kerala the blushes. At the other end, Vishal Kaith also produced a fantastic save to keep his side in the game. Rohit Kumar found space outside the box and fired a long ranger only to be denied by the Chennaiyin custodian. This was their only shot on goal during the first half.

Chennaiyin suffered a huge blow just before the drinks break as Lalchhuanmawia Fanai went down after a tackle. He was replaced by Jerry Lalrinzuala. The script wasn’t different in the second half as Chennaiyin remained the better side. However, Gomes pulled off a couple of fine saves to keep Laszlo’s team at bay. The first came when substitute Fatkhullo Fatkhuloev delivered a pinpoint free-kick into the box during the 67th minute. Gomes stayed alert to avert the danger.

The Kerala custodian then had his biggest influence on the match by producing a fine penalty save, eight minutes later. The referee pointed to the spot when Rafael Crivellaro was brought down in the box by Sergio Cidoncha. Jakub Sylvestr stepped up to take the spot-kick but was denied by Gomes, who pulled off a fantastic save. Chennaiyin pushed hard for a winner but Kerala saw the game out to secure a hard-fought point
