Bengaluru FC has signed Alwyn George A One-Year Deal

29.07.2015 : PART - 43 : BFC Press Release: 29.07.2015 : Bengaluru FC have signed midfielder Alwyn George on a one-year deal with the club having the option of extending it by a year, the Blues announced on Wednesday. Ashley Westwood, in his pre-season press conferenceon Monday, had mentioned about the possibility of filling in three to four slots on the team for the new season and George’s signing marks the beginning of the process.

A product of the Tata Football Academy where he spent a little more than three years, George went on to play for Pailan Arrows before spending two seasons at Dempo who were relegated from the I-League last season. He has also played for the senior and under-23 national teams.

Having caught Westwood’s eye the moment the gaffer saw him train with the national team, George was always on the Blues’ radar. “We’re delighted to have Alwyn on the team. He is the first Indian player who had my attention simply because of the potential and natural ability he put on display. A lot more was expected of him but, for whatever the reasons be, he hasn’t been able to do justice to his potential. He’s certainly a player who we can improve and get him back to his best. I see this signing as an asset to the team,” said Westwood of his latest acquisition.

George was part of the Dempo squad over the last two seasons but struggled to get adequate playing time which even saw him lose his spot in the national team. But the talented youngster believes his stint at BFC will be the perfect springboard he needs. “I am really excited to have signed for Bengaluru FC. Udanta trains with Oxford United FC

21.07.2015: BFC PRESS RELEASE : Bengaluru FC have sent young winger Udanta Singh on a developmental training stint with English League Two side, Oxford United FC. The fleet footed 19-year-old has been training with the over-century-old club under the watchful eye of manager Michael Appleton, for a little over a week now.

Blessed with abundant pace and touted as a bright prospect, the club felt that Udanta would benefit much from this chance. “We all know the kind of talent Udanta possesses and as a club, we need to make sure he’s given the best chance to keep improving. We are glad that Oxford United FC accepted our request to have him over and we have no doubt whatsoever that the boy will make the most of his stay there. He will be under the guidance of a seasoned manager like Appleton and will return not only an asset to the club but to the country even,” said Parth Jindal, CEO Bengaluru FC.

Blues’ coach Ashley Westwood, who has worked with Appleton at Blackpool and Blackburn Rovers, felt the chance to train at Oxford will leave Udanta richer. “We are delighted that Oxford United have given Udanta a chance to train and improve at such a well-run and organised football club with some really good facilities as theirs. I personally went to meet the staff whom I know very well and I am pleased that he is in good hands with an exceptional coach who has worked with some of the best in the country in Roy Hodgson, Roberto Di Matteo and Bryan Robson. I am certain that Udanta will excel under the mentoring of Michael Appleton,” opined Westwood.

Udanta signed with Bengaluru at the start of the second season but an injury during a pre-season game meant he took a while to recoup before knocking on Westwood’s door for a place in the squad. He also became Bengaluru FC’s youngest ever goal scorer when he shot the Blues to the lead against Persipura Jayapura in an AFC Cup group fixture.

“The facilities are really good here and there are a lot of similarities between methods here and at Bengaluru FC which makes me feel at home. It did take a bit to get used to the pitch but I’m comfortable now,” said the youngster over phone from the UK.

Appleton too, saw this as a good chance for Udanta to test his potential. “Oxford United are delighted to give Udanta the opportunity to keep progressing along his development path by coming and training with us and hopefully he will fulfill his potential,” said Appleton who, like Westwood, came through the ranks at the Manchester United academy.

Salgaocar SC signed Scottish attacking midfielder Martin Scott

18.07.2015 : PART - 39 : Salgaocar FC will have in their ranks a Scottish trio for the upcoming campaign. After extending the contract of striker Darryl Duffy and roping in Malky Thomson as Head Coach, the club today announced the signing of attacking midfielder Martin Scott on a year-long contract. Not only will this be Martin’s first stint in the Indian sub-continent, but is coincidentally also his first move away from Scotland, where he has close to 175 league appearances.

The 29-year old is a product of the Livingston academy which also happens to be his hometown club. He made his Scottish Premier League debut against Rangers at Ibrox in 2005 and thereafter spent the next 5 years at Ross County where he scored a memorable goal in the Scottish Cup semi-final against Celtic FC in 2010. He has since represented Hibernian and Raith Rovers in addition to having had a second spell at both, Livingston and Ross County.

"I am delighted to join Salgaocar FC a club which I have heard a lot of about from the coach Malky Thomson and a player I know very well who plays there, Darryl Duffy. I had several offers to play in the UK this season but when the discussion to move across to India came up and that too at Salgaocar FC who have a long history in football in India and in the I-League, I was very keen. I would like to thank the coach and the management at Salgaocar FC for making this possible”, the player was quoted after signing on the dotted line for the Greens. “I can’t wait to get there and join my team mates to commence pre-season. I am looking forward to giving my best and challenging for the title”, he added.

With the Goa Professional League regulations limiting the number of foreigners per team to two, the Greens will use the services of the Scottish duo for the State league and explore the option of adding the 2 other foreigners closer to the start of the I-League campaign. Salgaocar FC are the defending Champions of the Goa Professional League, having gone through last season’s campaign unbeaten.

“We welcome Martin to the Salgaocar family and wish him a successful tenure at the club”, remarked club General Secretary, Mr. Adlear D'Cruz.

This September will mark five years since Quan put the St Anthony’s High School in Majorda on the map after he was handpicked by a star-studded selection panel that included former India Captain and Arjuna Awardee Bruno Coutinho and the late great Goan wing wizard Domnic Soares at a talent hunt competition in the state.

The final round where he was selected from thousands as the lone Goan to travel to Germany was held at Don Bosco ground in Panjim. The twenty year-old Quan is happy to have signed a Professional contract for Sporting Goa and excited to be training at Don Bosco. “This is where I got the opportunity to train abroad and meet future World Cup winners such as Bastian Schweinsteiger and Thomas Meuller, where they presented me with a Bayern Munich signed jersey,” explained Quan.

I-League Player transfer 2015-16 “We are pleased and proud in equal measure to announce the signing of these three youngsters. At Bengaluru FC, we pride ourselves in identifying and recruiting players who we feel, once given a platform and time to adapt to our training and system, can improve and become an asset to us and the national team," said coach Ashley Westwood on the new acquisitions.

While Daniel (striker) and Malsawmzuala (midfielder) hail from Manipur, wing-back Nishu comes from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh. The three boys even featured in the two friendlies between the India under-19 side and Bengaluru FC, in Bengaluru, earlier in August. Westwood said he was confident that the boys would flourish and give a good account of themselves in time to come. "We are confident that these three boys have the attributes and attitude to develop and become household names in India. It's only been two years since BFC was founded, but we've handed the national team as many as 9 players across age categories, with most of them making their debuts and this is down to our philosophy and hard work. We are certain this will continue."

The boys too were excited at the prospect of turning out for BFC. "I'm really happy to sign for a big club like Bengaluru FC and am waiting to be able to do everything I can to contribute to the club’s success. It's going to be an experience to play alongside the top players in the country and I'm also excited about watching the fans get behind the team," said Malsawmzuala. “We’ve tracked Ranjan for a long time and I’ve seen him for the last five or six years while I was coaching in Pune and later with Shillong Lajong. It’s a position that needed addressing at the club and with Ashley’s experience as a centre-half and with his coaching, we can hopefully develop Ranjan into a player who can complement the national team’s back four,” said Reddy.

With just one training session under his belt, Ranjan has already expressed his desire to make an appearance for the Blues. “I’m really happy to have signed with Bengaluru FC. “I am delighted at signing with Bengaluru FC till the end of the season and I don’t really think I need to say much about the kind of professionalism this club is known for.
