Steadfast Camp at Allianz Arena , Munich, Germany
|
09.09.2009 : Jaideep Gandhi, Mumbai :Global insurance, asset management and banking giants Allianz launched their inaugural junior football camp '09 at Munich. The five day camp from 26th-30th August was attended by 37 participants (27 boys & 5 girls) from countries as varied as Bahrain, Brazil, Bulgaria, Hong Kong, Korea, Netherlands, Russia, UK and Germany. This was a camp which Steadfast Sports & Adventure Academy would have loved to be part of.
Allianz has supported sport at national and international levels for many years enabling thousands to enjoy unforgettable global events. The sponsorship of the state of art Allianz Arena, home to Bayern Munich and 1860 Munich is an outstanding example of this. The company has been based in Munich for the last 50 years. The partnership between the Allianz Arena GmbH, the two Munich clubs - FC Bayern Munich und TSV 1860 Munich, the city of Munich and the Allianz has made first class sport possible in the most modern and fantastic stadium, that is the Allianz Arena.
Allianz decided to spread its wings by conducting this football camp and give exposure to deserving teens in world class environment. For many participants it was their first time out of their respective countries. And it was a dream come true for all of them, experiencing state of art facilities at the 51, Sabener strasse, club Bayern's HQ and the Allianz arena.
|
|
The kids were well and truly like Alice in wonderland. For the five days in Munich, the camp participants not only stayed in the same hotel as Bayern team does before their home games but also shared the same floor. They rubbed shoulder with the likes of Ribery, Robben, Mario Gomez, Coach Van Haal and other stars of the Bayern galaxy. They had two 2 hours training sessions a day with official Bayern coaches, besides a 3 hour tournament comprising of mixed teams of different nationalities.
The participants got opportunities to go behind the scenes at the clubhouse as well as the Allianz arena witnessing the state of art performance center, gymnasium and player’s dressing rooms and stepping onto the hallowed turf of this astounding stadium. They even left behind personal messages to their favorite players. They were also taken on a Munich city tour where they visited the Nymphenburg palace, Marienplatz, Olympic park, the top of the TV tower and finally had a traditional dinner at the legendary bier gardens. The highlight of this camp for the participants was to watch Bayern take on defending Bundesliga champions Wolfsburg at the Allianz arena. It turned out to be a spectacular game which Bayern went on to blank the wolves 3-0 courtesy of a Robben brace. The final icing on the cake was the exclusive photo and autograph session with the entire Bayern team.
Although many of the children didn’t speak English and at times there was a communication barrier they overcame all these as they all understood the universal language of football. It was the love and zeal for this passionate game which brought them down to Munich and they were not disappointed. This was probably a once in a life time opportunity thanks to the sponsors of this camp. By the time the Munich sojourn was over the children were very emotional as they collectively agreed that "they had a time of their lives!!!” And no one would disagree with this statement. Let’s hope that next year children from India also benefit from this truly phenomenon international football experience.

Steadfast Soccer Academy debuts at Gothia Cup 09 Sweden
|
03.08.2009 : Jaideep Gandhi from Mumbai :SSAA embarked upon on a
fresh football challenge by way of their participation in the 35th edition of the
Gothia Cup which was held in Gothenburg, Sweden. In their pursuit of giving
maximum exposure to the young talented Mumbai based footballers, Steadfast
took a contingent of 26 which included two teams of boys 13 and boys 15 under
the guidance of their Director Vinod Nalavade and Mahindra Utd. U15 coach Diago
Fernandes.
What started out as a crazy idea amongst a group of young sports leaders in
Gothenburg has developed into the world’s largest football event. Gothia Cup is
currently, one of the most competitive world youth football tournaments.
Spanning one week in July each year, the event becomes the dominant event in
Gothenburg, with 4520 games played on 110 fields, and 300,000 visitors expected.
|
|
“Whilst planning this trip to Gothenburg, we knew we were visiting the cradle of
football, i.e., Europe. There was never the slightest of doubt in our mind about the
high standard of football we would be confronted with. And we were not
disappointed” says Vinod Nalawade. The boys 13 were divided into 28 groups of
four teams each (112 teams) SSAA group consisted of two teams from Sweden,
IK Kongahalla and Athletic FC besides a Romanian outfit Sportul Studenc.
|
|
The boys 15 were divided into 53 groups of four teams each(212 teams) This group
consisted two teams from Sweden Bjorndammens BK and Ljusdal IF besides a
crack Norwegian outfit Lillestrom SK. Although the boys improved their
performance from game to game they were no match to their opponents in terms
of speed, stamina, skill, passing and ball possession. It was a great learning curve
for the boys.
The other highlight of this trip was the Olympic style opening ceremony of the
Gothia Cup, which was held in the brand new multipurpose Ullevi stadium. This
stadium had recently witnessed the finals of the Euro under 21 competitions where
Germany had triumphed over England. It was a memorable evening with the
stadium packed to capacity of 51,000 people and each participating country was
represented by a club.
The Indian contingent made a huge impact when they
entered dressed in the traditional dhoti and a saffron kurta. The evening ended
in midst of a spectacular fireworks.
The Gothenburg sojourn was a great learning experience and a melting point of
various nationalities and their cultures. Lots of friendships made, the children are
looking to renew this bond come July 2010.

in Mumbai”, said the martial arts black belt Arjun Bajwa, who has acted in blockbuster movies like Fashion,

movie Slumdog Millionare, Veer Zara and host of other movies also seemed to enjoy the game. “My love for

of the game as football is something that should be enjoyed for ninety minutes. However, the infrastructure
for football in our country needs overhauling. It would be nice if sports were made compulsory in the
schools or colleges,” she further said.
|
|
Raj Singh Chowdary, encouraged the players throughout the evening. “Once you are a sports person, any
sports can bring you here,” said the top seed lawn tennis player.” Personally I do not blame the Government
for the less popularity of the game I would rather blame the association for the not doing anything for the
game,” said the lead actor from Gulaal.

many of the school coaches are playing in the tournament.
Afraz Norrani, third standard student of St. Andrews High School, an

sees football he wants to play with it.”
Benard Pereira, an ex Olympian says, “It’s wonderful to see these kids
coming here as they love football. They come here to enjoy the game
