Brazilian striker Romario scored the 1,000th goalof his career on 20th May 2007

41-year-old Veteran  Brazilian striker Romario scored the 1,000th goal of his career  on Sunday, by a 48th-minute penalty in Vasco da Gama's 3-1 victory over Sport of Recife in the second round of the Brazilian national championship at Rio's Sao Januario stadium . After the goal, the game was suspended for 15 minutes  with Vasco leading  3-0   as Romario's  mother, father wife, children and  journalists rushed onto the field. Romario then ran around the pitch, waving to the cheering crowd and   dedicates  this goal to all the people who helped him  and who were always by his  side, like his  parents,  children and all of  his fans.  He also  thanks God in heaven for all this. Romario recorded his goal tally himself and included junior matches 71 Goals in his teenage and exhibitions. By his calculations, he is joining fellow Brazilians Artur Friedenreich (1,329 goals from 1909-35) and  most notable  Pele, who had 1,281 goals in 1,363 matches and who scored his 1,000th against Vasco when he was 29.  World governing body FIFA doesn't recognize the mark because by their calculation Romario scored 929 Goals (1000 - 71).
