With great pomp and glory, Mohan Bagan Football Club celebrated its 118th birth anniversary on 29th July 07 at Mohunbagan-CFC ground, Kolkata. The day’s celebration was marked by a couple of friendly football matches featuring the junior players of the team, cine-stars, sports journalists, veteran footballers followed by award-ceremony where the late Football Administrator -Dhiren Dey, was awarded the prestigious “Mohan Bagan Ratna” award as a mark of acknowledgement of his outstanding contribution to the growth and success of Mohan Bagan Club. One of the matches was supervised by Smt Chaitali Pal- the only woman FIFA referee of India, a rare seen in the Kolkata Maidan. A startling feature of the day’s celebration was a great cultural extravaganza glittered by the presence of stars of Bengali cultural intelligentsia. Large number of Mohan Bagan members and fans turned up at the show with their family members and enjoyed the day in the true “Mohan- Bagani” spirit and fashion by displaying a horde of banners, festoons, models of boats etc.
“Royal Bengal Tiger” – the mascot of Mohan Bagan was seen roaming here and there all over the ground and was a source of excitement to the children who had a great time clicking snaps with him. A great football-jugglery show followed by the rhythmic tune of the 108 -“Dhaki”s filled the air with festivity. Last but not the least the dinner served at the end of the programme was really delicious and as usual, the great “Prawn Malaikari” with all its taste and flavor won the heart and taste of the diners. The Mohan Bagan authority indeed deserve kudos for the sleek and entertaining evening which will be remembered for long.
