Mahindra officially refute Alvito interest and transfer allegations
25.03.2008 - News ----- 2
Mahindra United officials became aware of certain reports in the online media
quoting Alvito that he has been approched by the Mumbai club. The report also
alleges that Mahindra United are indulging in a wrongful practise of approaching
players who are already contracted to certain clubs. In response to this, the club
officials felt it appropriate to send out a message to the general public and
football community at large, so as to prevent any misconceptions as to their
practices and intentions.
Mahindra United team Secretary, Mr. R Natarajan, says for the record, "Regarding
the news item on Mahindra United's interest in Alvito, I would like to categorically
deny any approach on our part. Furthermore, as alleged in the report, we do not
indulge in approaching players who are under contract for the long-term with
other clubs, and expect the same in return. We as a club follow the idealogy set
by the President, Mr. Alan Durante, and will never stoop to this level. We would
like the public to be aware of our committed stance on such an issue. Once again,
we feel that such an erraneous report's publication is baseless and unwarranted,
and is only being used to serve the vested interests of certain people."

PIFA Colaba Youngstar FC lift the runners up trophy MFL Super Division.

|
21.03.2008:
PIFA – Colaba Youngstar FC coached by Nirvan Shah of the Premier India Football
Academy & jointly managed by Sudhakar Rane & NirvanShah, have once again
lifted the runners up trophy of the MFL Super Division.
The young team played its final game on 19 March at Cooperage Stadium against
the very experienced Central Railway (Mumbai Div). They had to play without the
service of both their full back Shabbir & Clifford and Goal keeper – Imran, due to
cards in earlier game.
Both teams were unbeaten in the Super 5 and had secured the 2nd place.
However, PIFA CYFC had to win if the wanted to finish on top. The team played
attacking football and were unfortunate to concede a goal in the dying moments
of both the halfs.
The team had started at the bottom of the league after 3 rounds were compelled
to sack their earlier coach. The team was once again taken over by Nirvan Shah,
an UEFA B licensed coach. The team not only got away frm the bottom with every
game they played, the team finished 3rd in the league and qualified comfortably
for the Super 5, where they remained unbeaten until the final game.
The team was formed by PIFA in 2006-2007 and took the runners up title in the
MFL Senior Division.
It is noteworthy that two players from the team Harshad Meher & Ajith Bhoir were
selected to play for India U-16. Both these boys were presented cheques of
Rs 10,000 by “PIFA Foundation for the benefit of sports” on their successful
return from Saudi Arabia in November 2007.
The team was sponsored by Tilaknagar Industries Ltd.

Karim Bencherifa is the new Coach of Mohun Bagan
|
18.03.2008:
Durand Champion and I- League runners-up Churchill Brothers Moroccan Coach Karim Bencherifa has been appointed as
new Coach of National Club of India Mohun Bagan for an one year contract. But Bencharifa would take charge as new coach from June 1.
However, it was still not clear who would coach Bagan for their much-awaited match against Germany's Bayern
Munich in the city on May 27 or 28. Former India International Satyajit Chatterjee who is now acting as assistant Coach of Bagan may take the charges.
But Karim Bencherifa, who has now quit Churchill, has been made an offer to coach Lebanese League leaders Al Ansar.
Al Ansar approached Bencherifa a day after they lost to Dempo Sports Club 1 - 3 in the AFC Cup Group "A" opener.
The officials of Al Ansar had a dinner with the Moroccan coach exploring the possibility of taking him to Lebanon. But
Bencherifa told them "Al Ansar is an option, but Mohun Bagan is still the favourite to get my signature.
Bencherifa ended weeks of suspense yesterday by leaving Churchill Bros Sports Club by mutual consent after a long time meeting with Churchill Bros boss Churchill Alemao to discuss his future. After discussion of the High profile officials of Churchill Karim told "I am leaving Churchill on an amicable and friendly note.
Some body said that Karim is very much offended with Odafa Okolie of Churchill Brothers and told the Officials to drop him from the team list in next season, otherwise he must quit But Karim has categorically denied he had told Churchill Bros
to drop Nigerian striker Odafe Okolie or look for another coach. He had no such demand and told to press that his Team's
amazing success story in the past would have remained incomplete without the excellent support from the management.
Karim has one of the most impressive C.V’s in Indian football at the present
moment. The Churchill coach was mercurial in Woodlands Wellington’s
championship win in Singapore football. Earlier Bencherifa had a successful stint
with the Brunei national team as well.
Now Karim who was praised by former Sliema and Floriana striker that he had
instilled confidence in the side.At the beginning of the season the Greens were
passing through a bad patch and even were in danger of slipping into the r
elegation pool league. But with the arrival of Bencherifa, the team regained
confidenence.

had defeated Mahindra 2-0 in a group league match. From start of match,
Mahindra started attacking and Santos found it difficult to cope against them.
At 5 minutes, Steven Dias' perfect center just could not reach Yakubu and in the
next minute it was Steven again whose center was cleared by Santos defence.
In 9th minute, there was a lucky escape for Mahindra when their custodian
handled the ball outside box and he could have received red card but referee or
linesman did not notice this.
In the very next minute Mahindra went ahead, Yakubu scores off a pass from
Steven Dias. Two minutes after this, Yakubu missed an open net with only
goalkeeper to beat. However, he made up for this by scoring in 15th minute
when Yakubu got the ball in midfield, ran few yards and then passed the ball to
Steven who gave ball back to Yakubu and Yakubu made no mistake to score.
After this goal, Santos started playing well and took control of game but
Mahindra defence stood firm. In 30th minute, Santos could have got penalty when
the ball hit one Mahindra defender's hand. Just before lemon break, Clifton missed an open net for Santos. In 2nd half, it was more of
an open game with both teams attacking to score. In very 1st minute, Gregory
scored by head off a terrific free kick by Leon and made scoreline 2-1.
Then at 22nd minute, Zuroog shot wide from outside box, he had got the ball in a clear
space, should have scored. Then few minutes afterwards, Sushant missed a easy
chance when he overlapped and got a ball from Steven.
At 40th minute, Jarren's shot was well saved by Subhasish. At this time, Santos players were all over
Mahindra defence. Then replacement Sushil Singh scored the winner just few
minutes before final whistle, a perfect finish after he got the ball from Douhousey.
Overall Mahindra completely dominated the match.

Bagan missed many chances to score while Santos relied mainly on counter

Half time score was 2-0. Rauf Khan was the worst player for Bagan and coach Carlos should have replaced

footer which convincingly beat goalkeeper. Baichung scored off a header.
Baichung and Barreto missed many chances to score. Santos will meet Mahindra in
the final on Friday. The scoreline however does not reflect the tough fight and
asorbing brand of football dished out by Mohun Bagan but they were done in by
two soft goals.
the 1st and the 3rd one scored against the run of play. However
all credit goes to the youthful South African outfit and it can be reckoned now
that quite a few of them will don national colours in the future.
It only needs to be seen whether this youthful exuberance will conjure up the same magic in the
final match scheduled on Friday.
