Dempo win home match 2 - 1 over JCT

31.01.2008:Amal Pai:With the help of Climax Lawrence's brace, Dempo defeated JCT 2-1 in their 14th Round of ONGC I-League match match played at the Goa today.

In the first half JCT shot into the lead in the 18th minute through Sunil Chetri's header off a cross-pass from Baljit Singh Saini (1 - 0).But in 43rd minute of the match Dempo equalised through Climax Lawrence header off a cross pass from Anthony Pereira (1 - 1).

Climax Scored Dempo's winning goal in the 89th minute off a brilliant pass from Ranti Martins(2 - 1). Climax 2 goals helped him to win Man of the Match award

With this win, Dempo maintained their position at the top of the table with 30 points from 14 matches while JCT s remains same third with 25 points after same matches.

Mohun Bagan win home match 2 - 1 over Churchill

31.01.2008:Mohun Bagan defeated Churchill Brothers 2-1 in I-league at their home match at Salt Lake Stadium,Kolkata.In the first leg the match was drawn 2 - 2.

Mohun Bagan took the lead in 3 minute of the match when Bhaichung Bhutia volleyed with his left foot and beat Churchill custodia Vinay (1 - 0). In the 31st minute by geting a ball from a corner, Bhaichung flicked the ball and Habibur Rahman increased Mohun Bagan to make it (2 - 0).

7 minutes later, Churchill reduced the margin when Vashum's minus to Odafe Okolie and he squeezed the ball to Mboyo Iyomi who volleyed the ball to net by beating Mohun Bagan Defender Manju ( 2 - 1)

Bagan had the best chance of the match 1st half when Bhutia beat the Churchill goalie who could not gripped a high ball , but the failed to push the ball into an empty net. A brilliant man marking to Churchill's goal gater was performed by Habibur Rahaman Mondol throughout the match.For his excellent perfomance along with winning goal Habibur was given the man of the match award

After todays 7th wins from 14 matches, Mohun Bagan now have 24 points, while Churchill with 8 wins from the same number of matches are on 26 points.

East Bengal - Air India goal less

30.1.2008:Kingfisher East Bengal failed to utilized the full potential of a slippery track in a sudden rainy atmosphere held to a goalless draw against Air-India in a 14 round encounter of the ONGC I-League played at the Salt Lake Stadium today. Although they lost 0 - 1 in first leg to Air India in their away match at Mumbai.

The boys of Bimal Ghosh successfully hold East Bengal after Mohun Bagan with in a week. In a fine show of tact Air-India, coached by veteran Bimal Ghosh, neutralized the host's biggest weapon Edmilson Pardal. Using one of the former East Bengal campaigners, Ghanaian Suley Musah, Air-India tightened its defence successfully restricting the East Bengal incursions. While Edmilson was closely policed, the host failed to find a second striker who could avail the gaps as the opponent focused on the former.

After getting 1 point from todays match East Bengal is now in 8th position with 12 points while Air India ia remains on the sixth position with 16 points after same matches.

Placed third from bottom, East Bengal will need to win their remaining matches to be safe to save relegation otherwise wait for the fate of the other's results.

For a Superb Goalkeeping, Air India Keeper Arnab Das Sharma has been declared Man Of the Match today.

Tulunga Double Resists Mighty Mahindra

30.1.2008:Starry Mahindra Utd failed to defeat their apparently weak opponent Salgaocar who find themselves in the bottom of the league table, on their home ground. Rather, Salgaocar defied their mighty opponent and put up a good fight against them to finish it off 2-2.

Today in the 1st Half Tulunga got his team lead by 1-0 with his goal in the 24th minute by beating Mahindra goalkeeper Sandip Nandy.But in 44th minute when Mahindra's substitute striker Sushil Kumar Singh was brought down in the box, Referee awarded a penalty,Md. Rafi netted the shot without mistake(1 - 1).

In the 63rd minute of second half, substitute K.Thoi Singh gave Mahindra a lead, by tapping in a ball which was rebounded from Salgaocar Keeper Medeira who could not grip the shot of Sushil Kumar Singh( 2 - 1). Malswama Tulunga again came to Salgaocar's rescue a minute later, beating Sandip Nandy from close range after Felix's square pass( 2 - 2). Salgaocar could have got a win but Tulunga's weak shot from close in the 74th minute easily cleared by Sandip Nandy. But after that both the teams could not utilise the opportunities created by their opponents till the end and the match finished 2-2.

After today's game both the teams remain in the same position with Mahindra Untied bagging 21points and Salgaocar having 7 points at the end of 14th round. Tulunga was awarded MOM for his superb performance.

India is top priority: Asian football chief

29.01.2008::The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) announced that it would give top priority to India with a view to improving the game of football in the South Asian country.

'India is top priority for us (AFC) and we will invest more to improve the game there,' AFC President Mohammed Bin Hammam, told reporters ahead of an award function here Tuesday.

He vowed AFC's full support to India through the Vision India programme, which is part of the Vision Asia development project.

Hammam's words would boost the morale of the All India Football Federation (AIFF) as India is set to host the AFC Challenge Cup in 2008 and 2010.

The AFC had given to the AIFF a grant of $1 million for the development of the sport last year.

'Historically, India has strong football roots. Some of the oldest clubs and competitions are in India. Some clubs have a fan following of more than 20 million, inside and outside India. That is an indicator to the popularity of the game,' said Hamam.

India is one of the seven pilot countries in the Vision Asia development project along with neighbours Bangladesh, Indonesia, Iran, Oman, Vietnam and China.

'The AFC is trying to introduce professionalism in football throughout Asia with Vision Asia,' Hammam added.

Sporting Goa defeat Viva 3 - 0 in away match

29.01.2008: Amal Pai:Sporting Goa win 3 - 0 over Viva Kerala in the 14th round of the ONGC I-League football championship at Nehru Stadium in Margao today .In away match Viva hold them 1 - 1.

Sporting scored first in the the 20th minute of First half, when Harmanjot Khabra, opened the account for his team who was near the goal, and easily beat Viva keeper( 1 - 0 ).

Elija Jr. then scored his first and Team's second goal in 33rd minutes after getting off when he drove the ball into the net off a pass from Chinta Chandrashekar from the top of the box(2 - 0). In first half Sporting was leading 2 - 0.

Viva Kerala had their best chance in the 13th minute of first half but Sabbash Saleel shot out from inside the box off a pass by Baba Tunde. Sporting increased their lead in the 61st minute, when Elihja netted the ball off a measured cross from the right by Lawerence(3 - 0).

Sporting Goa's Goal keeper Luis Barreto, was declared the Man of the Match.

Mohun Bagan Played well in first half. Jonathan Bobo, Dharamjit Singh and Lalkamal Bhowmick attacked repeatedly from Mid field but could not open any chance because their two goal gater Baichung Bhutia and Jose Barreto both being tightly policed by Air India defenders.

After todays match Mohun Bagan took their points tally to 21 and continue in fourth place after 13 round while Air India 15 points and occupy sixth position.

East Bengal beat Dempo 1 - 0 in Home Match

Kingfisher Eastbengal utilized the full potential of a slippery track in a rainy season at the Salt Lake stadium, in Kolkata and successfully ended up posting a 1 - 0 victory over defending champions Dempo S.C in the return leg home match.

After a 2-2 draw in the first leg with the same opponent Dempo, they came out victorious by a solitary in the 6 minute off a flashing Free Kick off Alvito of East Bengal.

Despite this victory Eastbengal have still not yet found themselves out of danger, as they are facing a probable relegation reality with 11 points from 13 matches and bags a second last position in the I-League table.

First half was dominated by Eastbengal with 51% ball possesion but Manoranjan's boys failed to score on three golden opportunities.East Bengal's Goal maker Edmilson well covered by Samir Naik, Mahesh Gawli and Anthoy Borges. In the first half, Edmilson got a chance to score within the six-yard box but he was brought down by Dempo Goalkeeper Avijit and his appeal for a penalty went in vain. I League Core Committee Meeting

27.01.2008 I League Core Committee Meeting was held at AIFF Football House ,Dwaraka ,New Delhi on Sunday ,27th Jan .The following resolution was adopted :

I-League will be played between September and March with all matches to be played on Saturday and Sunday.

All State Leagues will also be played during the same period, to be played on Wednesday/Thursday.

However in view of the non-availability of ground, IFA (West Bengal) to be allowed to hold the local league any time between May and September for 2008/2009 and must resolve the ground problem in time to ensure that the local league for 2009/2010 is held between September and March.

Players playing in the I-League match for more than 45 minutes will not be allowed to participate in the subsequent state league match.

Kalyani Lichutala Vivekananda School champion in Kerala

26.01.2008:The Boys of Kalyani Lichutala Vivekananda Adarshya Bidyapith won an invitation inter State School Football Tournament held at Aluva of Kerala organised by Aluva Municipality.

The Boys of the Kalyani School beat Rossary Higher Secondery School of Goa in the Final. In the Final full time result was 1 - 1. But in the Tie Breaker shoot out Kalyani Boys won 5 - 4 margin.

Biswajit Dutta and Santu Paul both of the Kalyani School were selected "Player of the Tournament and Best Goalkeeper" award.

After reaching today at Kalyani with Trophy, chairman of Kalyani Municipality Mr. Susanta Jha felicitated the Boys and Coach Mr. Bidhan Mondol.


Sweet revenge of Churchill against JCT

26.01.2008: Amal Pai (Goa): Today in the 13th round of ONGC I-League Churchill Brothers defeated JCT on their home ground 1-0 to move up to the 2nd position from 3rd and took a sweet revenge of their 0-3 loss in Ludhiana.

Today the 1st half was dominated by Bencherifa's boys. It was Mboyo Iyomi's (10') solitaire goal which helped him lead his team. But, in the second half JCT had plenty of opportunities with the likes of Eduardo Silva, Sunil chhetri loosing too many golden chances but ultimately failed to equalize.

After today's match, Churchill Brothers have preceded JCT to 2nd position with 26 points. Whereas JCT have faced a demotion from 2nd position to 3rd with 25 points.

Robert Lalthalma of Churchill Brothers was awarded Man of the Match. Now the I-League has become tremendously inetersting at this moment, as the top 3 teams viz. Dempo (27), Churchill (26), JCT (25) are differentiated by only 1 point.

U-16 India Team's USA tour before AFC U-16 championship

The AIFF has released a list of U-16 players who will board the flight for a 26-day exposure trip to the U.S in July this year to prepare for the final round of AFC U-16 championships to be held in Uzbekistan in October last week. This 26-day trip is being planned for the footballers to attend a training camp in West Virginia and may have to travel for another extended camp which will be held in Germany or Portugal.

The enlisted U-16 players have already gathered at the AIFF's newly built premises and training centre in Margao from 21st January to attend a pre season training under the guidance of Collin Toal assisted by coaches Tanmoy Basu (goalkeeping coach), Narayana Menon, Sanjoy Sen and Jude Barreto, while U-19 coaches Mridul Banarjee and Sayeed Sabir Pasha, former international, will also play their part, from time to time, in guiding the youngsters, where they will be camping over the next seven months.

The 23 probable U-16 players are listed below for Margao Camp:

24.01.2008:Viva Kerala hold Mahindra Mahindra in their away match but lost today in their home match for a poor performance of defenders.Mahindra United won 2-0 in the 13th round of the ONGC I-League in Kozhikode against them.

First half of the match was goal less but in the 47th minute of 2nd half Mahindra took the lead through Andrew Pomyie Mensah after getting the final pass from Douhou (1 - 0)

Again in the 72nd minute, Steven Dias passed the ball from right side to Md. Rafi and Rafi made no mistke throuh his powerful shot(2 - 0)

Andrew Pomyie Mensah has been selected Man of the Match today.

With this win, Mahindra have moved to the fourth spot with 20 points, because Mahindra and Mohun Bagan have similar goal average, but Mahindra lost 3 matches while Mohun bagan has lost 4 Matches.

Felix Chimaokwu put Salgaocar lead in the 26th minute of First half when he scored from inside box off a pass from Milagres Gonsalves and also scored his 7th individual goal (1 - 0).

Sporting also had two opportunities to equalise in the first half, but Olushalau Ogunda's shot was cleared by Salgaocar's defender Samson Fernandes on the goal line. Later,Wilton Gomes,who got a pass from Elijah jr. missed an easy oppertunity.

in the 64th minute a penalty was awarded by referee Minangsu Bhattacharya after Salgaocar's Goal keeper brought down Sporting's Elijah Jr. inside the box. Denzil Franco made no mistake to put Sporting in level (1 - 1).

Bhaichung Bhutia nominated for Padma Shri

23.01.2008:India football captain Bhaichung Bhutia has been nominated for civilian honour Padma Shri award, in recognition of his distinguished career and service to the game in the country. Final list is yet to be cleared by the government before the announcement on then eve of the Republic Day.

If Baichung's name gets the green signal, the 1998 Arjuna Awardee will become the fifth Indian footballer who was honoured with the Arjuna Award in 1998, will become the fifth Indian footballer after Gostho Behari Paul (Mohun Bagan 1962), Sailen Manna (Mohun Bagan 1971), Chuni Goswami (Mohun Bagan 1983) and PK Banerjee (Eastern Railway 1990).

22.01.2008:On 27th January Core Committe of All India Football Federation will take their decision upon the issue of participation or non participation of selected National Football Team players in local Tournaments organised by State Associations.

Mohun Bagan Authority has been decided not release any player for National duty until the payment of their injured Footballer Deepak Mondol is setteled by AIFF as per his contract.

Since Deepak Mondol has not yet played any match or been part of a single practice session for Club after signing contract because he was called for National duty by AIFF and was sebsequently injured in Nehru Cup against Bangladesh match.

Now he is recovering but will not fit for the present session.


East Bengal on verge of relegation…

21.01.2008:They were desperately in need of a victory…Three points from this match would have helped them a great deal to avoid the relegation. At the end it proved out to be a nightmare for the Red and Gold brigade as they lost by a brace to arch rivals Mohun Bagan…

East Bengal started on a promising note but failed to create any positive chances in 28th minutes of first half of the match. Mohun Bagan went ahead as a perfect cross from Jose Ramirez Barreto found Baichung Bhutia unmarked inside the penalty box. 19.01.2008:Amal Pai: A last minute Odafa Okolie's goal has chenged the fate of Salgaocar in 12th round of the ONGC 1-League at the Nehru stadium on Saturday.

The scoreline was 1 - 0 in half time in favour of Salgaocar, who played an organised game in the first half, took the lead in the 41st minute through Captain Rocus Lamare. But Churchill equalised in the 75th minutes when Mboyo Iyomi scored from a pass from Odafa Okolie (1 - 1).

Churchill, celebrated with a goal as they earned a penalty in the dying minute 90'+8' when Okolie was brought down by a rival defender.Odafa Okolie,who took the penalty, made no mistake to give Churchill full points.

Mahindra's prestigious win over unbeaten Dempo

19.01.2008:Mahindra United beat defending Champion Dempo Sports Club by a 3-1 margin in the 12th round at the Cooperage in Mumbai on Saturday.First leg was ended in a 1 - 1 draw.

Today Mahindra was leading Sukhwinder Singh's Goal in 18th minutes, striker Andrews Mensah Pomeyie's 32nd minutes goal in first half. Playmaker Douhou Pierre of Mahindra scored another goal in 2nd half 55th minute.

Dempo got their consolation goal through a Ranty Martins header in the 89 th minute of the match.

Douhou Pierre of Mahindra adjudjed as man of the match today.

AIFF President P.R.Dasmunshi kicks off Nike-MUPC U-15 India final

16.01.2008:President of All India Football Federation today kicked off the 3rd years's Nike-Manchester United Premier Cup U-15 India final round 2008 at Nehru Stadium in Fatorda in south Goa.The Tournament will begin at Duler Football Stadium in Goa from January 17 to 20.

All matches will be of 40 minutes duration with each half lasting 20 minutes. Three matches in the morning from 8 a.m. and three in the afternoon from 2.30 p.m.

Uzbekistan to Host AFC U-16 Championship

Uzbekistan will host the AFC U-16 Championship 2008 finals.This is the second time ever Uzbekistan will host an AFC competition after hosting AFC Futsal Championship 2006..The final round matches will be held at Army and Jar Stadiums in the Uzbek capital from October 4-19, 2008

Sixteen (16) teams will be taking part in the competition where they will be divided by a draw to four groups of four each.The Final draw will be held in Tashkent on April 1, 2008.

14.01.2008:Amal Pai: Churchill Brothers deflated Mahindra United 4-2 in an 11th round match in ONGC I-League today at goa.In first leg Churchill trounced Mahindra by 5-1 also.

Prolific goal scorer of Churchill, Odafa Okolie pumped all goals for his team including a hat-trick. He actually scored the fastest goal upto 11th round this I-League's after Baichung 2' goal against...

Okolie found the target in the 1st minute from a measured pass from Mboyo Iyomi, ( 1 - 0) but Mahindra equalised in the 52nd minute through Andrew Pomeye off a pass from Douhu to make it (1 - 1).In 62nd minutes Churchill brothers increased their lead through Odafe Okolie following a corner by Kheitang Paite to make it (2-1). Again Mahindra leveled the score in the 64th minute through Stevan Dias off a cross pass from Andrew Pomeye (2-2).

India football team's exposure tour to Portugual again

India’s chief football coach Bob Houghton recently said that the Team India will embark on an exposure tour to Portugal likely in july this year to gear up for the AFC Challenge Cup in the new season.Before Nehru Cup India team went to Portugal for 15 days exposure tour.

Houghton also told that the AFC Challenge Cup is likely to be held at the end of July or in August, either Delhi or Hyderabad as India is the host Country.

Other than that India will take part in the SAFF tournament which will be jointly hosted by Maldives and Sri Lanka and the draw will be held in Maldives on February 26. And for this upcoming Tournament National camp will be held in April.

After observing some I-League matches, Houghton praised some Players like Churchill Brother's wingers Robert Lalthamba, Naoba Singh, midfielder R. 10.01.2008Defending champions Dempo Sports Club beat formidable Churchill Brothers 4-1 and maintained their unbeaten run in the 10th round of the ONGC I League match played at Goa today.

In first half Dempo leaded only one goal but in the second half they put another three more to their arch rival.

Edeh Chidi in the 44th minute, Ranty Martin in the 67th minute, Anthony Pereira in the 68th minute and substitute Joaquim Abranches in the 93' of the second half scored for Dempo. Mboyo Iyomi reduced the margin for Churchill Brothers in the 85th minute.

10.01.2008: Viva Kerala to edge past Air India 3-2 in the 10th round of the ONGC-sponsored I-League in home town Kozhikode today.

In the 55th minutes of first half, Wisdom Abbey of Viva scored first goal through an angular header cross of S Saleel ( 1 - 0).After 3 minutes getting a pass from Paresh Shivalkar, Bashiru M Abbas of Air Men earned the equaliser for (1 - 1).

At the 63rd minute Viva Captain Khelemba Singh scored another goals through a long range Free Kick( 2-1).But Airmen equalised on 66th minutes through Suley Musah from a corner kick(2 - 2).

After East Bengal, Mohun Bagan also lost to Sporting Goa

09.01.2008:Sporting Goa made a 1-0 victory over Mohun Bagan in the 10th round of the ONGC I-League at the Nehru Stadium in Margao on Wednesday.

The goal came in the 84th minute when Mohun Bagan Keeper Sangram Mukherjee failed to grip a substitute Harmanjot Khabra's header, a cross from the right off Denzil Franco but it was well saved by N.S Manju near the goal line but he could keep it close and Elija Jr. who was in front of the ball made no mistake by a header( 1 - 0).

The Kolkata team almost took the lead at the half hour mark when Brazilian striker Jose Barreto's low shot was fisted away by Sporting goalkeeper Luis Barreto. Another chance came when captain Bhaichung Bhutia 's header off target after being picked up by Venkatesh.

Joseph Pereira of Sporting Goa,found his long ranger missing the target narrowly after seeing Bagan goalkeeper Sangram Mukherjee out of position. Ghanaian striker Lawrence Adjei .

The third successive win took Sporting's point tally to 12 points from 10 matches who last week defeated an another Kolkata Team East bengal by same margin.Mohun Bagan remain with 14 points in 10 matches.

Salgaocar -East Bengal match ended in a goalless draw

08.01.2008:In the 10th round of the ONGC I League match played at Nehru Stadium Fatorda in Margao today Salgaocar S.C of Goa made a goaless draw(0 - 0) against East Bengal and share 1 point each. .

Dipankar Roy of East Bengal who was the substitute of Alvito saved East Bengal when a Fabio Passos header, following the corner by Nicholas Rodrigues, which almost entered the goal but cleared away by East Bengal's substitite Dipankar Roy just 2 minutes before ending the match.

Salgaocar came near to scoring in the 18th minute of the first half from a Joe Rodrigues movement and passed to Tulunga but East Bengal defender Debobrata Roy cleared the ball very confidently. East Bengal came with a couple of good moves but failed to score. In the 28th minute, Dipendu Biswas's header missed the target from Snehasis Chakraborty's pass. East Bengal Striker Edmison Fully flopped today.

Now,Three times winner of NFL ,East Bengal increased their points tally from 7 to 8 from 10 matches where Salgaocar from 4 to 5 points with equal matches.

Mohun Bagan won against Mahindra United in home match

05.01.2007:Mohun Bagan beat Mahindra United 1-0 in their 9 round match of the ONGC I-League at Salt Lake Stadium,Kolkata.Mohun Bagan forced a number of good moves and could have won with a bigger margin with their famous duo Baichung-Barreto .

In the first half 9th Minuute Bagan could have lead when a powerfull left footer by Dharamjit was saved by Mahindra keeper Sandip Nandy.Again in 44th minute Mahindra Goal keeper again made a fine save off Dharamjit.The Mumbai outfit also had a look on Bagan goal but Mohammed Rafi's header off Stephen Dias was off the target. First half was goal less but Mohun Bagan dominated over Mahindra.

In the second half Mohun Bagan going all out movements through Barreto-Baichung combination, who were supported by overlapping defenders and finally earned the match-winner in the 65th minute when Barreto headed home a centre-from- right flank by overlapping right back Habibur Rahaman Mondol(1-0).

Bharti Enterprises and AIFF signed a "MOU" to establish a world-class football academy in Goa.

04.01.2008:Bharti Enterprises today joined hands with AIFF to help the country attain global standard in the sport.The company has signed an MoU with AIFF under the terms of which, it will pump in Rs 100 crore towards a comprehensive National Football Development Programme and for globalisation of Indian football with a target to take India to the World Cup 2018.

Bharti Enterprises and AIFF signed a "Memorandum of Understanding" to launch the first major public-private partnership to establish a world-class football academy in Goa named 'Bharti-AIFF Academy'.

Bharti chief Sunil Mittal said Football is the world's most popular sport.Our Vision is to develop a rich football culture in India. To achieve this vision, we will look at partnering leading international football clubs and institutions.He wanted a "football revolution" in the country and was ready to invest "any amount of money" necessary for providing a world class academy.He also said that "We have had enough dose of cricket and I think it is the time to start a programme to make India a football nation. In ten years, we want India to be on the world stage".

The academy, which will be built on the lines of club academies in Western Europe, will be a residential cum educational academy.It will also have on-site educational facilities and hostels so that the selected youngsters can study regular subjects while developing their football skills. It will select and nurture talent in four different age groups (8 to 10 years, 11 to 13 years, 13 to 15 years and 15 to 18 years) with the help of experts from around the world and will provide the talent with exposure to global best practices and training techniques.''

The academy is likely to have 100 players, 25 each in four age categories.Work on the academy may start by March 31.


Dempo rout Viva today in I - League

04.01.2008:Defending Champion Dempo S.C of Goa maintained their unbeaten run at the end of the first leg when they defeted Viva Kerala 4-0 in the ONGC I-league football tournament, at the Nehru stadium, in Margao, Goa today and remain the top position with 21 points in the league table while Viva Kerala finished their First Leg with 9 Points.

Dempo, who led 1-0 at half-time, scored through Valeriano Rebello 33rd minutes, Captain Ranti Martins 61st minutes, substitute Clifton Gonsalves 63rd minutes and Beto on 71th minutes.

Anthony Pereira of Dempo has been selected as man of the match today.

Former India defender Ashoklal Banerjee passes away

04.01.2008:Former India defender Ashoklal Banerjee passed away in a Nursing Home in Kolkata on Friday.
For his tremendous heading ablity,the fans used to call him as "HEAD MASTER".
He joined East Bengal from Bali Prativa Team in the year 1968 before playing 2 years in Greear Club in Kolkata Football league
He was a regular player of Bronj Winning India team in 1970 Asian Games and also represented India between 1969-71 in Mardeca and other Tournaments. From 1971 - 1977 he was the player of India Giant East Bengal of Kolkata as a reknowned defender.
He was mainly associated with East Bengal in their Golden Era in first half of 1970.He was the Captain of East Bengal when they defeated Mohun Bagan 5-0 in IFA Shield in the year 1975.


PIFA Colaba Youngstar FC qualify for Elite play off's in the Mumbai Super Division football league

04.01.2008:Premier India Football Academy men's team PIFA-CYFC have qualified to play the MDFA Super Division Elite play off's .PIFA Colaba Youngstar FC the men’s team of the Premier India Football Academy recovered from a disastrous start to qualify for Mumbai’s Super division Elite play off’s.

Premier India Football Academy took over the management and training of the Colaba Youngstar FC in 2006-2007. They played the Mumbai Senior Division of the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) and topped the league to get promoted to MDFA Super Division 2007-2008.

PIFA CYFC is a community project run by PIFA to develop football in Mumbai’s Colaba area. The team has a big fan base from this area and has instilled a sense of pride to have their boys perform, win matches and getselected to playforthe Indian team. The team has 2 players Harshad Meher (GK) and Ajit Bhoir (def) playing India (u-16), Manuel D. (mid) & Chand Sheikh (GK) have been called for India U-19 trials.

The team got a new sponsor Tilaknagar Industries Ltd for 2007-2008 season, the sponsorship helped the team to train at a proper training facilities, recruit coaches, pay the players and support staff.

PIFA Director & UEFA B licensed coach Nirvan Shah took over the team after sacking coach Nelson, when the team suffered 2 loses against Sea View SC (0-1), Income Tax (1-4) and tied against Mumbai Muslims (1-1), securing one point from 3 games. The team scored only 2 goals.

It was an uphill task and the team needed to get out of the relegation zone. It took 2 weeks for the new coach Nirvan Shah to train and re-organise the team into a competitive side, they once were. The boys trained hard and were responsive to the new training methods. The team focused on set plays, movements as well motivation. Most importantly the boys began to enjoy their game.

The team’s new war cry “One for all, all for one” instilled team spirit. They won 3 games beating Companeroes Bandra (3-1), Mumbai Port Trust (8-0) and Air India U-19 (2-0) and fought back against the league leaders Central Railway after being down (1-3) to tie the game (3-3).

The team scored 18 goals in the league to become the highest goal scorer’s. The team finished 3rd in the league after being at the bottom for the first 4 games. The team remained unbeaten under coach Nirvan.

The five teams that will play the Mumbai Super Division - Elite play off's are as follow :

Salgaocar holds high profile JCT by 3 - 3 in I League

03.01.2008:Brave Salgaocar hold JCT to an exciting 3 - 3 draw in the 9th round of the ONGC I-League played at Nehru Stadium, Margao on Thursday.But Last 11th NFL's 1st League result was 0 - 0 and JCT won 3 - 0 in return league.

Eduardo Da Silva 10th , Marcos Pereira 50th and Anwar 64rd scored for JCT. While Felix Chimaoku 40th, Joe Rodriguess 59th and Nicholas Rodrigues 67th scored for Salgaocar.Half time score was 1 - 1.

Salgaocar who dominated the game unable to gain full points due to Felix Chimaokwu and Milagres Gonsalves who missed couple of easy chances to score.

JCT who finished their first leg unbeaten and still stay on top of the League table with 19 points from 9 matches. While Salgaocar have collected 4 points from same matches.

NIKE MUPC U-15 final round at Duler.Goa from 16th

01.01.2008: This is the third year in a row that Nike is conducting this tournament in association with the All India Football Federation. Over the years, Nike’s MUPC tournament has attracted participation from teams across different parts of the country such as Mumbai, Tamil Nadu, Bangalore, Orissa, Pondicherry, Kerala, Gujrat, Delhi, Chandigarh, Goa, Kolkata and the North East. This year over 50 teams from India participated.

Nike is the main sponsor for the tournament, which is an annual grass root initiative for football in India.This year's final round the 8 teams will be played into 2 groups of 4 teams each and will compete on a league basis. 2 teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals followed by the finals, which is likely to be played on January 20.

All matches will be of 40 minutes duration with each half lasting 20 minutes.Three matches in the morning from 8 a.m. and three in the afternoon from 2.30 p.m.

Eight qualifying teams are East Bengal (Kolkata), Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan ( Mizoram), SBHS Football Academy (Punjab),St Stephen's Football Academy(Chandigarh) from North East Zone

Salgaocar SC (Goa), Sporting Clube de Goa(Goa); Cosmos Football Academy(Tamil Nadu),Mahindra United (Mumbai) qualified from South-West Zone.

The winners of the final will participate in the South East Asia Regional finals.
