ISL PRESS RELEASE : Delhi Dynamos flaunted its attacking strength yet again as they steamrollered Kerala Blasters 2-0 to move on top of the Hero Indian Super League table at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Delhi, on Friday.

In a clash between the best attack and strongest defence, Delhi’s strike-force delivered in the second session with goals from Kean Lewis and Marcelinho in the 56th and 60th minute, respectively. Delhi have now scored 12 goals in eight matches, the best scoring record in the league this season, while Kerala lost their best defensive record after conceding two goals for the first time in the league.

The victory enhanced Delhi’s points tally to 13 from 8 matches, helping them overtake Atletico de Kolkata (12 points) at the top of the table. Atletico de Kolkata however still have a match in hand. Pre-match talk of attack versus defence played out in the opening 45 minutes as Delhi saw more of the ball and had the better scoring chances. Kerala on their part simply defended and looked to hit their opponents on the counter.

Brazilian striker Marcelinho had the first chance to open the account for Delhi when a quick throw-in on the right was flicked on by Richard Gadze to Marcelinho. The Brazilian lost little time in smashing the ball but it only ended up hitting the side netting. Gadze had a chance to score two minutes later but despite controlling a ball from Florent Malouda inside the box, he could not keep his attempt on target.

Kerala’s best chance of the half came late in the game. Kervens Belfort sent a good cross from the left for Didier Kadio in the 42nd minute but his header after generating tremendous power missed the target narrowly. Delhi turned the match on its head in the second session and had Kerala goalkeeper Sandip Nandy to thank for an unlikely mistake. A casual back pass was easy clearance but Gadze blocked his path, won the ball back and then set it up for Kean Lewis to keep his cool and slam it past a host of defenders.

Four minutes later, Marcelinho made it 2-0. A fantastic ball from Malouda saw the Brazilian head it perfectly beyond Nandy from an acute angle. The setbacks upset Kerala’s calculations prompting coach Steve Coppell to make three substitutions within a minute. Coppell introduced Antonio German, Pratik Chowdhary and Duckens Nazon but Delhi played the rest of the match without being troubled. The loss was Kerala’s first in six matches after losing two matches in a row at the beginning of the league.

ISL PRESS RELEASE : FC Goa climbed up from the bottom of the Hero Indian Super League table for the first time after securing a hard-fought 1-0 victory over FC Pune City at Shree Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex Stadium, Balewadi-Pune, on Thursday.

FC Goa were in danger of exiting the league early this season but coach Zico masterminded his first win over a team coached by Antonio Habas as Brazilian striker Rafael Coelho scored the all-important goal from a free-kick in the 32nd minute. The win helped FC Goa move to the seventh spot with seven points from eight matches while FC Pune City are now at the bottom with six points from seven matches.

FC Goa chief coach Zico made as many as five changes to the team that lost the last match at home against Delhi Dynamos. Zico preferred to strengthen his defence with three international players while goalkeeper Laxmikant Kattimani, Sanjay Balmuchu and Robin Singh also returned to the side.FC Pune City coach Antonio Habas, who had never lost a match against Goa, made three changes, at least one necessitated with the two-match suspension of defender D Ravanan.

FC Goa looked solid at the start, working their way neatly ahead. Joffre Gonzalez was presented with the first chance in the 10th minute when Pune lost the ball but the Spanish midfielder shot wide from close range after getting into a good position.

Brazilian striker Rafael Coelho was also presented with a chance in the 23rd minute only to be blocked by Mohammed Sissoko inside the danger zone. Luciano Sobrosa then missed a chance from a corner-kick when he headed wide but Goa eventually managed to take the lead in the 32nd minute.

Joffre had won a free-kick just outside the box after being brought down by Pune defender Augustine Fernandes. Rafael stepped up and curled the ball well into the far corner of the nets, past Pune goalkeeper Edel Bete who was distracted by the presence of Goa striker Robin Singh in the wall.

Pune came very close to securing the equaliser just before the half-time break as Jonatan Lucca cut past five Goa players but his shot was well saved by goalkeeper Kattimani. In the second session, Pune City had more of the ball but could not breach the solid defensive line manned by captain Gregory Arnolin, Rafael Dumas and Luciano.

Infact, FC Goa had two good chances to kill the match but Joffre shot wide after being put clear by Rafael and the Brazilian striker was himself guilty of missing an easy chance after he cut past the goalkeeper but only ended up providing an opportunity for Pune defender Rahul Bheke to head the ball away from the goal-line.

ISL PRESS RELEASE : Substitute Leo Costa scored a screamer with just two minutes left on the clock as Mumbai City FC rescued a point against Chennaiyin FC with a 1-1 draw in the Hero Indian Super League at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai, on Wednesday.

Jeje Lalpekhlua’s second half strike seemed like it would be enough for Chennaiyin FC to edge past Mumbai City FC and move joint top alongside Atletico de Kolkata. Mumbai never seemed into the game until Leo Costa came off the bench to score a wonderful long ranger in the 88th minute to win Mumbai’s first ever point in the ISL against Chennaiyin FC.

In four previous clashes between the two teams, Chennaiyin FC had emerged triumphant in all games and for most part of their last clash, seemed like the better side. With coach Marco Materazzi suspended for this clash for his ‘misconduct against opponents or persons other than match officials’ as defined by the AIFF Disciplinary Committee, the defending champions took it upon themselves to continue their dominance over the visitors.

For the opening 45 minutes, Chennaiyin FC dominated but could not break the deadlock. Maurizio Peluso was in fine form up front and seemed to create the best chance for Jeje in the 14th minute when he slid a ball to the Indian striker but Gerson Vieira did well to come from behind and clear the ball.

Peluso then had Mumbai goalkeeper Albino Gomes at full-stretch to keep a free-kick away in one of the six shots that Chennaiyin had in the first session.

Mumbai City did not have any shot on target in the first session but marquee player Diego Forlan did come close in the 36th minute. The Uruguayan striker made space for himself just outside the box and let go of a powerful shot which Chennaiyin FC goalkeeper Duwayne Kerr did well to tip over for a corner.

Chennaiyin FC had their noses in front in the second session. Peluso’s corner-kick should have been cleared by the Mumbai defence but two defenders simply watched and another one missed the flight of the ball, allowing Jeje space to head the ball past the goalkeeper in the 51st minute.

The defending champions should have killed the match in the 72nd minute but Dudu Omagbemi missed from close range. Jeje had shown remarkable composure to win the ball, hold on to it and then slide it for Dudu who could not beat the onrushing goalkeeper.

Mumbai City made the best use of that let-off and found the equaliser in the 88th minute. Leo Costa took the ball from about 25 yards out and launched a powerful left-footer which found the top corner of the net, past a diving Kerr.

The draw left Mumbai City on the second spot with 12 points, the same as leaders Atletico de Kolkata, while Chennaiyin FC have 10 points in their kitty and are sandwiched between Delhi Dynamos in third and NorthEast United FC in fifth, both with the same

ISL PRESS RELEASE : Delhi Dynamos FC secured their second win of Hero Indian Super League 2016 after a 2-0 triumph against FC Goa in front of almost 18,000 fans at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda on Sunday evening. Both the goals came in the second half, following the introduction of Marcelinho. The winger scored first in the 72nd minute before setting up Richard Gadze four minutes later for a comfortably victory against last season’s runners-up.

Goa came desperately close to taking the lead in the 5th minute after Rafael Coelho went in on goal, but Toni Doblas just managed to get his finger-tips on the Brazilian’s attempted chip, which was still heading towards goal until Anas Edathodika headed heroically off the line to concede a corner.

Julio Cesar was next to try his luck for Goa after a delightful pass by Coelho found him in a good position. He dragged his shot wide and failed to test Doblas this time around. Delhi had three quick attempts on goal soon after through Gadze. The Ghanaian’s first two shots were blocked by the Gaurs’ defence, while his third effort was safely collected by Subhasish Roy Chowdhury in goal.

Mandar Rao Dessai came closest to breaking the deadlock in 26th minute when a thunderous left-footed shot from distance nearly took the paint off the post. Gadze had another shot on goal three minutes later after Florent Malouda set him up. This time the 22-year-old missed the target to Delhi’s despair.

Delhi’s last chance of the half also fell to Gadze. The Ghanaian drove at the Gaurs’ defence before forcing Chowdhury into a save. Romeo Fernandes had Goa’s last shot of the half, which required Doblas’ intervention to keep it 0-0 at half-time.

It was a slow start to the second period with the first shot of the half coming in the 56th minute through Bruno Pelissari, whose effort from range was straight down Chowdhury’s throat. Cesar flicked on a Dessai cross from the left into a dangerous area two minutes later. A desperate stretch by Luciano Sobrosa wasn’t enough to meet the 36-year-old’s flick-on, however, as the ball trickled across the face of the six-yard box and went behind for a goal-kick.

Marcelinho came off the bench for Delhi shortly after the hour mark and made his presence felt immediately with two quick attempts. Sobrosa then had a cheeky effort on goal tipped over the bar by Doblas in the 66th minute.

The opening goal came six minutes later after some individual brilliance by Marcelinho. Delhi’s super-sub expertly controlled a long ball from Doblas before gliding past Goa’s defenders and unleashing a venomous shot into the back of the net to make it 1-0.

The Lions sealed the result in the 76th minute after Marcelinho headed a Malouda cross that found him at the far post towards Gadze, who was on the edge of the six-yard box. This time the Ghanaian striker made no mistake as he buried the ball into the bottom corner to give the Dynamos a two-goal cushion.

Delhi kept their shape and possession well in the final 10 minutes to run down the clock as Goa struggled to get on the goal. The Gaurs failed to create anything of note as Delhi picked up their second win of the season, against rock-bottom Goa.

Southern rivalry ends in stalemate

ISL PRESS RELEASE : Chennaiyin FC and Kerala Blasters had to settle for a goalless draw in the Southern derby of Hero Indian Super League at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Chennai.

In a tale of two halves, Chennaiyin FC were the dominate side in the first session, creating plenty of chances but could not give finishing touches. Kerala Blasters were the stronger of the two teams in the second session but couldn’t keep their shots on target despite having the better chances.

The draw did neither teams’ any good. Chennaiyin FC occupy the fourth spot after their second consecutive draw with nine points from six matches. Kerala Blasters continue their onward progress and they too now have nine points. Chennaiyin FC coach Marco Materazzi made five changes to the team that drew against FC Pune City, opting to start with Bernard Mendy at the back at the expense of marquee player John Arne Riise. Karanjit Singh was back in goal to accommodate another international outfield player.

Kerala Blasters coach Steve Coppell continued with the same squad that won all three points against FC Goa but it didn’t seem to work at the start as Chennaiyin FC enjoyed the edge in the first 45 minutes. In the second minute itself, Chennaiyin FC could have taken the lead. Raphael Augusto won the ball in Kerala’s own half and played it down for Dudu Omagbemi whose left-footer was nervously parried away by Kerala goalkeeper Sandip Nandy before a defender kicked it away for a corner.

Two minutes later, Kerala’s defence was sloppy as Josu Prieto’s back pass was closed down by Davide Succi but Aaron Hughes was on hand to clear the danger. The best chance of the first half fell at the feet of Bernard Mendy. A cross from Baljit Sahni towards the far post found Mendy, who sidestepped Cedric Hengbart but his shot from close range ended up hitting the side netting.

Kerala Blasters did not have a single shot on goal in the first session and were much improved in the second session with eight shots, three of them on target. Most of the threat came from Haitian international Kervens Belfort, who struck a majestic winner against FC Goa in the previous game.

His first attempt on goal was at the hour mark when Mohammad Rafi’s header found Belfort but his first time shot was just wide of the mark. Belfort was again in the thick of action when Mohammed Rafique’s cross from the right saw Belfort get ahead of Chennaiyin FC defender Mehrajuddin Wadoo but the effort missed the target by a whisker.

ATLETICO AND NORTH EAST ARE IN A TARGET TO TOP THE LEAGUE TABLE

PREVIEW : 27.10.16 - Atletico De Kolkata will face the challenge of North East United in an away encounter at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati on Friday. After facing a defeat in the last match against Mumbai City FC , the Kolkata franchisee are in a target to earn full points in order to climb up at the pole position of the League table.

On the contrary North East United will play after a long break since they played their last match on October 20 against Chennaiyin FC. As it is expected that North East United will play in front of a full house on Friday evening are eagerto establish their superiority in the competition.

Atletico will play without their chief coach Jose Monila in the dug out as he was sent off the ground in the last match against Mumbai City FC.ATK assistant coach Bastab Roy insisted that Molina’s absence in the dugout won’t have any bearing on the match.

ATK have managed just two clean sheets from six games this season, and Diego Forlan’s goal in the 79th minute in their last match led to Molina’s men first defeat this season. While interacting with the media at Guwahati Arnab Mondal the central defender said, “Last seven days, we have played three matches so we are tired. It’s not that the strikers are not trying, they are just not getting goals, we play as a team and we will try our best to get three points or one point.”

NorthEast United FC head coach Nelo Vingada hopes, a long break of eight days will stand his team in good stead when they host Atlético de Kolkata at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati on Friday.

In the pre match media meeting Nelo Vingada the Portuguese coach said,“You know after the game against Chennaiyin, it was important to recover, especially mentally, not so physically. When we played against Chennaiyin, we did have five days off before that match, so mentally it was like somebody punched us, and we didn’t deserve that but this is football… I tell my players that life is not only about football. In the game and training, life is football but we also have other things to do.”

The match will kick off at 7 pm IST.

INDIAN SUPER LEAGUE LIVE SCORE 2016
ISL PRESS RELEASE : Delhi Dynamos were left without a win in their last five matches after only managing a 1-1 draw against FC Pune City in a Hero Indian Super League encounter at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Delhi, on Thursday.

FC Pune City stunned the hosts after taking the lead in the stoppage time of first half with their first real attempt on goal through Jesus Tato but Delhi Dynamos managed to snatch a point late in the game after Milan Singh found the mark from a set-piece in the 79th minute.

No doubt Delhi Dynamos were the dominant side today and should have won comfortably at home. They created lot of chances but it was FC Pune City’s keeper Edel Bete who stood guard to his net denying the host any advances. The goalkeeper, who won the Golden Glove last season and has won two consecutive ISL titles in his first two seasons, kept his team in the hunt with numerous saves until he was beaten by Milan Singh.

It was a superb night for Edel Bete who was simply unbeatable. In the first 45 minutes, Bete made six saves, the first of which was in the 12th minute. Florent Malouda played a delicious flick for Milan who took a shot from just inside the box. The ball took a deflection and looked good enough to sail into the top corner of the net but Bete somehow managed to get his fingertips to the ball.

Ten minutes later, a dominant Delhi brought the best out of Bete again. It was Gadze who controlled an overhead pass from Malouda, turned away from a defender and shot on goal only for Bete to leap high and avert the danger.

FC Pune City surged ahead much against the run of play. In the 45th minute, Rahul Bheke’s long cross inside the danger zone was headed towards the goal by Jesus Tato, leaping over Souvik. His header should have been collected but goalkeeper Soren Porei and defender Anas Edathodika simply looked at each other even as the ball hit the post and entered the goal.

In the second session, Bete again rescued Pune a number of times. A minute after resumption, Ruben Gonzalez’s low grounder was kept away by the ever-alert goalkeeper. A rare mistake from Bete when he collided with his own defenders in the 53rd minute looked like the end of the clean slate but Delhi’s Brazilian striker Marcelinho couldn’t keep his attempt on target.

Bete, however, was beaten in the 79th minute and Delhi rewarded for their persistent efforts. A free-kick on the right by Marcelinho was smartly pushed towards Milan who took a low grounder that slipped between two Delhi players and past a diving Bete.

The draw did not alter any team’s fortunes on the ISL table. Delhi Dynamos continue on the sixth spot with seven points from six matches while Pune City, who have also won just one of their six matches, have six points and remain just above bottom-placed FC Goa.

ATLETICO TO FACE MUMBAI CITY IN SECOND ROUND ENCOUNTER
PREVIEW : 24.10.16 - Atletico De Kolkata and Mumbai City FC will going to meet in the second round league match in the third edition of Indian Super League at Rabindra Sarobar stadium on Tuesday evening. The first round encounter ended in a 1-1 draw as both the team shared points. Atletico De Kolkata are the only unbeaten team in the competition are confident enough to gain full points.

While the chief coach of Mumbai City Fc's Coastarican coach Alexandre Guimaraes are of the opinion that his team will adopt the right strategy in order to consolidate a commendable position in the league table.

The view of the two coaches in the pre match press conference :
JOSE MOLINA: "I hope when we play against Mumbai City FC at home all the players will be ready. I hope they will give their best, try to win and take all three points. If we go top of the table that is good but that is not the most important thing now. We want to win the three points. Getting the three points matters most because that takes us closer to our goal, the semis. It doesn’t matter if we are on top of the table then.”

ALEXANDRE GUIMARES "We go to play against Atletico de Kolkata to get the points that we didn't get against FC Goa.”

The Costarican coach will have to juggle with his squad after several of his players picked up injuries. Leo Costa and Anwar Ali could only make it to the bench in the previous match because of injuries, while Pronay Halder and Defederico had to be substituted.

Boithang Haokip is still recovering from the knock against Kerala Blasters, leaving Guimaraes very little to pick from, especially since four of his players are still on duty with Bengaluru FC in the AFC Cup.
