Stop the blame game and lets do it first...

Commonwealth Games is round the corners and everyday switch on the news channels or go through the news papers, one common thing you can find out. The deadline of the completion work is well over and yet it is not done. The politicians as usual blaming each other for it. But every one is overlooking the fact that still a couple of months left and rather than blaming each other they can join hands for the conutry.

I was talking about Commonwealth Games. But the state of football is no different in the country of 120 crores people. After every World Cup often one question is raised " Why can't a country of more than 100 crore people, find out 11 good players who can take the nation to the biggest sporting show on earth"? I am sure the same question will be raised after 100 years as well. Every one comes up with opinion in this country rather than executing it.

Thousands of Indians travelled to South Africa to see the World Cup soccer, millions more saw it on the televisions. But how many of them willing to know how an African country hosted the show? The infrastructure, economy and all other things are almost the same in Southern most African country and India.

Still they are succesfully hosting the world cup and we are struggling to host an event like Commonwealth Games, which is almost no where near the massive soccer world cup.

If the Africans made the difference, they made it beacuse of their willingness to execute rather than blaming each other. This game should be stopped and that could lead the country to events like World Cup football one day.

Nostalgia Fransiscoli : Uruguay star Forlan reached in Kolkata

WELCOME FORLAN TO KOLKATA :: kolkatafootball.com team

In the inaugural edition of the Nehru Cup in 1982 we were fortunate to have seen the powerful Uruguayan side consisting of Enzo Fransiscoli, Carlos Nadal, Rodolfo Rodriguez, Washington Gonsalves, Venancio Ramos, Nestor Montelongo, Nelson Agresta, Jorge Da Silva, Walter Barrios , Jose Luis Russo, Jose Luis Ferrari, and a host of other talented footballers. Quite expectedly, Uruguay won hands-down against the Peoples Republic of China in the final 2 - 0 to annex the trophy.

It was for the first time soccer lovers of Kolkata and India saw with their own eyes the level where world football had reached. The precision passing, man-to-man marking, dummy runs and out-of- the-world free kicks were all dished out by the powerful Uruguayans.

Kolkata football lovers will once again witness the presence of a successful Uruguayan World Cup footballer who won accolades in the recently concluded 2010 FIFA World Cup. He, Diego Forlan fresh from his successful World Cup commitment was perhaps the only footballer to have mastered the whims of the “Jabulani”, directing his lethal free kicks within the goal.

The others, more often than not sprayed the ball all over the park. Now as Forlan steps onto the hallowed turf of the Yuba Bharati Krirangan (Salt Lake Stadium) on the 1st August, 2010 he will be one of the many successful and talented footballers who have honored us in the past by their valued presence, Nascimento Silva (Pele), Gerd Muller, Chinaglia, Roger Milla, Diego Maradona, just to name a few.

Will present at Salt Lake on 1st August to cheer the Challenger's XI team for the Grand Finale against Mohun Bagan of "The Match".

WELCOME Diego Forlan IN THE FOOTBALL CAPITAL OF INDIA

Diego Forlan, the Uruguayan World Cup star, a gentleman footballer par excellence (a rare breed these days) comes from a family of footballer and is the son of Pablo Forlán Lamarque (born July 14, 1945 in Soriano), the retired Uruguayan footballer. As a professional footballer Pablo played for Peñarol (1963-1970), São Paulo FC (1970-1976) and represented Uruguay in the 1966 and 1974 FIFA World Cups. Diego Forlan’s maternal grandfather, Juan Carlos Corazo, played for Independiente in Argentina and was Uruguay’s coach in 1959-61 and 1962-64.

Diego’s sister Alejandra Forlan is head of the ‘Fundacion Alejandra Forlan’. All the family members including Diego Forlan support Alejandra Forlan to run her foundation in a best possible way. For Diego Forlan his sister is his aspirator and a role model.

Alejandra Forlan was crippled when she was just twelve years old. In the year 1991, she met with a terrible car accident collied with a road side Palm Tree, that claimed the life of her boyfriend. Sadly, the accident made her paralyzed, and only able to achieve mobility with the help of a wheelchair. But the cost of the related medical procedures was beyond the family’s means.

At the time, the family had virtually no way of footing the bill, which was nearly $250,000. Luckily, Forlan’s mother met former the 80s soccer legend Diego Maradona, who was gracious enough to help her and the family.

Seeing Maradona’s gesture to step up for his family cause, inspired Diego Forlan too. At that time he was just 12 years old. From that moment on, Diego Forlan felt driven to become a successful professional footballer in order to look after his family better.

Alejandra recalled her brother’s vision for greatness immediately following the accident. “The first thing he said to me while I was lying in the hospital was that he would be a famous soccer player, and that he would get the money needed so the best doctors in the World can treat me.”

As a child, Forlan went to an English-speaking school and played tennis every day for several hours. Soccer was just a twice weekly affair. He could have become a pro in either sport, but soccer took over. Alejandra Forlan Foundation was inaugurated in 2009 with two primary objectives: reduce the high traffic accident rates in Uruguay, and work for the fulfillment of the rights of persons with disabilities resulting from this problem. Very rarely does such a young person have the foresight to set such lofty goals. Diego Forlan also excelled on the tennis court. Good thing for Uruguay he stayed with the family sport.

Earlier, Forlan had prophesized that Uruguay would be the surprise team of the 2010 World Cup. The 31-year-old then helped make it happen, scoring three goals in the Celeste’s run to the semifinals.

He left Uruguay when he was 17 for Argentina’s Independiente and at age 19 debuted for the team coached by Cesar Luis Menotti, who had guided Argentina to the 1978 World Cup title. Forlan's 40 goals in 91 games for Independiente caught the attention of Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, who bought him for more than $10 million in 2002 when he was 23.

Forlan won three English Premier League titles with Manchester United, but after scoring only 17 goals in 98 appearances, Forlan moved to Spain, where he excelled. With Villarreal he won the La Liga title, the Pichichi, and the European Golden Shoe as the top scorer. He repeated the double feat with his current club, Atletico Madrid.

On the eve of this World Cup, Forlan helped Atletico Madrid win the Europa League, scoring both goals against Fulham in the 2-1 final triumph. After becoming the star he promised he would be, Diego Forlan supported his sister’s foundation that advocates for road safety in Uruguay. And in 2005 he became a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador. Alejandra also advocates for the rights of the disabled through UNICEF.

Nicknamed “Cachavacha” after an Argentine cartoon witch he is said to resemble, Forlan tried to conjure some more magic in the 2010 FIFA World Cup. He was perhaps the only player who came to terms with the “Jabulani” and helped Uruguay finish in the top four.
