Mohun Bagan I-League 2010-11 with a 1-1 upset scoreline 03.12.2010: Another disappoint day for the National Club of India as they started their I-League Campaign today with a 1-1 draw in the away match against Pune F.C. But the Maroon and Green brigade also remained unlucky to snatch the all 3 points from the home side as in two crucial occasions Bagan’s attempts were closely denied by goal post. Mohun Bagan dominated the majority ball possession in the match but finally again due to defensive error ultimately they settled for just 1 point in their opening game.

Today Mohun Bagan started with well organised manner as Chidi and Bareto were looking very much energetic from the beginning. In the early phase of the match Bagan also wasted couple of chances. But the strike came for the visitors as Snehashis Chakraborty scored a fine goal from a direct free kick. In the closing minutes of the first half Pune F.C. also came close to equalize but this time denied by the Bagan defence.

Russia and Qatar to host FIFA World Cup 2018 and 2022 .

The FIFA Executive Committee has chosen Russia to host the 2018 FIFA World Cup™, while the 2022 FIFA World Cup™ was awarded to Qatar. FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter announced the result of the FIFA Executive Committee's secret vote on Thursday 2 December 2010 in Zurich’s Messe.

In lauding the victorious nations, the FIFA President also made a point of praising those who missed out. He said: “I have to say thanks to to the Executive Committee of FIFA because for 2018 and 2022 we go to new lands, because the FIFA World Cup has never been in eastern Europe or the Middle East. So, I'm a happy president when we speak of the development of football.

"But I have to give big compliments to all the bidders for the big job they have done and the messages they have delivered. All have delivered the message that football is more than just a game. Football is not only about winning; it is also a school of life where you must learn to lose, and that is not easy.”

England, Netherlands and Belgium, Spain and Portugal, and Russia all submitted bids for the right to stage the 2018 finals. Both England and Spain are previous FIFA World Cup hosts, with the 1966 tournament on English soil ending in the Three Lions' only world crown to date. The Iberians staged the 1982 edition of world football’s showpiece event, when the Trophy was won by Italy. For 2018 and 2022 we go to new lands, because the FIFA World Cup has never been in eastern Europe or the Middle East. FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter

Igor Shuvalov, Russia's deputy prime minister, vowed that his country would justify the faith placed in them by the Executive Committee. He said: “You have entrusted us with the FIFA World Cup for 2018 and I can promise that you will never regret it. Let us make history together.”

Five candidates were bidding to stage the 2022 edition of the world’s greatest sporting event. As well as eventual winners Qatar, Australia, Korea Republic, Japan and USA also submitted bids for the highly-sought after hosting rights. USA, Japan and Korea had all previously staged the FIFA World Cup finals, with Japan and Korea becoming the tournament’s first joint-hosts back in 2002. The 1994 finals took place in the US.

A clearly delighted Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al-Thani also expressed gratitude for the honour of hosting football's greatest tournament, while insisting that Qatar's historic FIFA World Cup would meet all expectations. "Thank you for believing in change, for expanding the game and for giving Qatar a chance," he said. "You will be proud of us - and you will be proud of the Middle East. I promise you this

The final presentations and the announcement of the host nations for the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups was one of the biggest media events ever seen in Switzerland. Some 70 TV stations reported live from the official announcement at Zurich Exhibition Centre, where around 1,000 reporters from all over the world also covered the event.

Russia 2018: Reactions : Vladimir Putin, Russian Prime Minister

I want to tell you a little story about my hometown, Leningrad. The city was destroyed during World War II. There was no electricity, no heat and no food during winter, but there was football. The game helped people to make it through hard times. Today there are millions of people living in Russia and a huge amount of them play football. This sport makes a positive difference. 2018 will be fantastic. We will build new stadiums and do our best to make the World Cup safe and enjoyable for everyone. We will allow all football fans to enter the country without a visa in order to enjoy the tournament and to get to know Russia and its history and culture.

Alberto Colaco nominated his name himself in AFC Gold Star Award...

Alberto Colaco, former general secretary of the All India Football Federation (AIFF), has been accused of nominating himself for the prestigious Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Distinguished Service Gold Star Award.

Colaco, however, defended his action, and said that he does not need the permission of the AIFF executive committee to file his nomination for the award.

'I did no wrong. I have not violated the constitution of the AIFF. I informed the AIFF president (Praful Patel) before filing the papers,' Colaco told IANS.

A senior member of the executive committee told IANS that Colaco, who will receive the award during the 24th AFC Congress gala dinner Jan 5 in Doha, during his tenure earlier this year recommended himself for the award and did not consult the committee.

'It was unethical on part of Colaco to recommend himself for the award. Recommending officials for awards is the prerogative of the executive committee. In fact, Tamil Nadu Football Association (TNFA) had recommended coaching director Gabriel Joseph for the AFC 'Distinguished Coach' award, but Colaco never forwarded it to the AFC . He also did not recommend any Indian for the referee's award,' the official said.

When Colaco was asked why Gabriel's name was not forwarded to the AFC, he said: 'Only elite coaches are recomended for the award and he does not meet the criterion.'

Colaco has been replaced as the general secretary by Kushal Das, but his contract with the AIFF ends on Jan 31, 2011.
