SALGAOCAR BEAT PUNE FC 3-0 IN FRIENDLY MATCH
SalgaoCar today beat Pune FC 3-0 in a friendly match held in Tilak Stadium,
Vasco, Goa. Anthony, Beevan and Dawson scored the goals for Salgaokar.
Dawson scored from penalty. Pune FC also got few chances to score but failed to
capitulate on the chances.
Pune FC played almost their full team with 4 foreigners, Tamba (ex-Mahindra United player), Edmar, Arata, and a Senegal striker on trial. Players like Selwin, Venkatesh, Ajayan and Paresh also were there in Pune FC team. Pune FC though lost today has definitely made a good team this year and will hope to continue with their good performance like last year when they finished 3rd in I league. For Pune, Venkatesh, Ajayan and Edmar had a good match today. For Salgaokar, only 1 foreigner was there in the team, Lucio. Sueoka has slight injury and so coach Karim did not want to risk him whereas Yakubu will reach Goa on Friday. Kalia Alaudeen, ex-Mahidra player had knee operation last season and he is expected to be fit within a month's time. Salgaokar has so far recruited 3 foreigners. Tomba Singh played for around 65 minutes today and played really well. Apart from him, Sukhwinder, Lucio and Subhash Singh had a good game. Salgaokar has a relatively young team this year with few good experienced players. In fact, age of Anthony, Beevan, and Dawson who scored in today's match are only 22, 23 and 19 years. With coach Karim in charge of this well balanced team, we may see them performing well in All India tournaments this year.

They have the guts, they have glory. They are the only team who will play in
this I-League without a foreigner, where it is well known that without good
foreign recruit it is impossible to do something better in the national level
tournament in India now a days.
Surprised! Don’t be. They are the resultant of the unique idea of Indian Football development. They are the first step of Indian world Cup dream. They are U-19 AIFF Development XI Football team who is allowed to compete with other 13 top giants of India like East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, Chirag United, Dempo, Churchill Brothers, JCT etc. in the upcoming I-League to be started from 20th Nov. In place of Mahindra United AIFF has introduced them as a fresher. Most of the team boys played 2009-10 SAF Games Tournament at Bangladesh, where they got 3rd place and Four Members of the team like Subodh Kumar, Jwell Raja, Jeje Lalpekhula and Jagtar Singh were the members of the SAAF Cup 2010 winning India U-23 team played at Dhaka, Bangladesh. Various people have pointed out about the Indian Football infrastructural failure in football which actually never helped India to have top notch in World Football. So, AIFF started to think out of box & the result is this unique idea.

If anybody asks to any Mohun Bagan supporter about the most important date in an English calendar, undoubtedly “29th July” will be the one and only one answer. Way back in 1911 eleven Bengal sons donning Green and Maroon jerseys put the Indian tri-color above the British flag for the first time ever in the then British ruled India. In fact, 29th July is not only the day for Mohun Bagan; it is the day for whole India, as because this historic win ultimately ignited the freedom movement. “Yes, we can beat the British”- this believe got its birth from that special victory in the 1911 IFA Shield final by Mohun Bagan against East Yorkshire Regiment.
Being the centenary year of this historic win, this year will be a remarkable one for the Green and Maroon fanatics all over the globe. Our club officials already paid their tribute to the “Immortal XI” by awarding all the Mariners with the “Mohun Bagan Ratna” on 29th July this year. Being a fan club, Sabuj Maroon Swapno tried to tribute the “Immortal” mariners whenever we got the chance. Back in 2008, we reinstalled the historic bench that is related to the “Immortal XI” in the club lawn. Just day before the “Mohun Bagan Day” this year, we put a glow sign containing the picture of the “Immortal XI”. Today again we pay our heartiest respect to the “Immortal XI” in a beautiful program in Muktangan Theater Hall, near Rashbehari, Kolkata. Muktangan was dressed up in Green and Maroon color from the early morning. The program started sharp at 11 a.m. with a Rabindra Sangeet. The entire hall was blossomed with the Green and Maroon spirit sooner as Mayukh-Mainak, the Music Composer of the film “Egaro-The Eleven” along with Avik, one of the lead singer of this film came to the stage and rocked the audience with two beautiful songs “Amader Surjo Maroon” and “E Sudhu Khela noy, Sangram” from this movie. The entire audience was backed in the fighting days of 1911 via those songs of this brilliant musical pair and they just tuned the audience in a high tempo.
After that we felicitated our honourable guests. Mr. Atindra Nath Sen, the Football Secretary of Mohun Bagan AC, Mr. Kashinath Das, the Cricket Secretary of Mohun Bagan AC and Mr. Sishir Kar and Mr. Debkumar Chatterjee, two Executive Committee members were present in today’s program along with Mr. Satyajit Chatterjee, Mr. Shyamal Banerjee and Mr. Pranab Ganguly. We were fortunate enough to get three of our “Ghorer Chhele”, Mr. Satyajit Chatterjee, Mr. Shyamal Banerjee and Mr. Pranab Ganguly as our guests in today’s program. It’s a bit unfortunate for all of us that our club Secretary Mr. Anjan Kumar Mitra was unable to attend the program due to his health problem, but his best wishes helped us to deliver this programme with great endeavor. After felicitation of our honourable guests, we came to the most important section of this programme i.e. felicitation to the “Immortal XI”. On behalf of Sabuj Maroon Swapno, our honourable guests felicitated the “Immortal XI” with special green and maroon scurf, rose sticks and a beautiful specially designed memento, a collage of “Immortal XI”.
The second half of the program started with the song of inspiration by Tagore “Aguner Poroshmoni” by the grand Daughter-in-Law of Hiralal Mukherjee, the last defender of the 1911 squad. Then the time came for our “Geeti Alekhya”. The theme of the Geeti Alekhya was Mohun Bagan, Nationalism and Rabindra Sangeet. The detail of the IFA Shield victory of Mohun Bagan in 1911 was presented with a sweet blending of Rabindra Sangeet and this was a unique approach from the side of Sabuj Maroon Swapno. This is the first time ever, when 1911 IFA Shield victory has been presented along with the mixture of Rabindra Sangeet – Tagore, Mohun Bagan and “Immortal XI”. This nice programme was staged by the members of Sabuj Maroon Swapno. A program of almost three hours was concluded by the vote of thanks by the President of Sabuj Maroon Swapno, Mr. Sunandan Banerjee. We personally thank again the family members of these great players, the guests, the media personalities and the audiences present in today’s program to make our effort a grand success. From a fan club’s perspective it is a great feeling for all of us to pay tribute to the “Immortal XI” in such a grand way. Today all of us feel really proud by seeing the picture of all the family members of these great players in a same platform. Until the Earth exists our beloved Mohun Bagan will be there with all its glory and “29th July and Immortal XI” will be in the heart of each and every Mohun Bagan supporters. On behalf of the Green and Maroon fans all over the globe we convey Green and Maroon salute to the “Immortal XI”. REPORT: Sunandan Banerjee : Sobuj Maroon Swapno, Fan Club of Mohun Bagan. |
