Ishmael Addo axed in India
28.07.2009 ::Ghanaian striker Ishmael Addo has been released by Indian
top-flight side East Bengal after just one season at the club.
The 27-year-old, former Hearts of Oak player, signed a one-year contract to join compatriot Yusif Yakubu at the club in December last year.
But he has been released after failing to impress at the club who played him as a midfielder even though he is a striker.
Addo will return to his native Ghana to revive his career possibly with his former club Hearts of Oak where he made his name.
But with his experiences abroad Addo is likely to seek a move to play away from the country's top-flight league.
He was signed by East Bengal as a replacement for Brazilian player Edmilson Marques, who was sidelined due to Hepatitis B.
Addo was tipped as a future world class striker for Ghana after topping the country's scoring charts for three seasons culminating in some action for the Black Stars.
But his quest to play European football ended in frustration as he failed to impress with clubs in France, Israel, Greece and Cyprus.
The failures that dogged his career abroad reared their ugly heads in India as he was played as a midfielder even though he is most efficient as a forward.
Addo has played for several big clubs like Maccabi Tel Aviv in 2004-05 who participated in the UEFA Champions League in that very year.
He was part of Ghana U-17 team that reached the World Cup in New Zealand' 99 where he was the top-scorer.

Outdoor Sports – Consumer Appeal
27.07.2009 :: Rana Bose ::The use of the phrase “Consumer Appeal” as
a part of the subject headline may raise a few eyebrows but then sports, be it
football, cricket or tennis is no more confined to mere participation and enjoyment
of the particular sports discipline by the players and spectators. It is now big
business involving huge money supply pumped in by big corporate houses.
When the world is increasingly being sucked into the game of soccer, the sub-continent and more particularly India is finding itself losing interest to develop this wonderful game more and more within and getting involved in to a lazy non-contact outdoor sport.
As a spectator sport, no other outdoor game matches up to football. The game is controlled by the more professionally managed Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) founded in 1904 and currently has 208 member countries, 16 more than the United Nations and 3 more than the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The format of the game has seen very minimal change since competitive football started. The few notable changes that came about were, increase of match duration from 70 to 90 minutes, numbering of the players shirts, the offside rule and the back-pass to the goal-keeper rule.
Football stands a better chance of acceptance amongst fans as compared to any other game. The major reasons that offhand come to mind are –
1. When two teams play it is like a battle with neither side willing to consciously sacrifice the initiative even for a second.
2. Watching or playing football is not for the weak-hearted. The adrenaline is constantly running and reaches its crescendo as the match progresses;
3. The game is played by players who have to be physically at their best unlike some other sports where pot-bellied individuals can also find a place;
4. The impartiality of the rules where neither side is favoured by the toss of a coin:
5. Out-of-the-world technique, i.e., a swerving freekick or a bicycle kick or even a pile-driver of a shot from top of the box is more pleasing to the eyes of the spectator;
6. Matches do not get stopped because of even a slight drizzle;
7. Decision making by the arbitrator (referee) is fast and matches are not held up for frequent referrals to the TV umpire;
8. Cheerleaders are not required to allure spectators into the football ground; and finally,
9. Everything is over within a span of two hours and the fate decided in favour of either side;
10. Countries gain recognition in the sports fraternity if they perform better on the soccer field. Ivory Coast and Nigeria are renowned for their football prowess although their economy is in shambles;
11. International football matches, (Club or Country) have more TV viewer ship than any other sport involving two nations.
Therefore, for a country like ours with a teeming population it is essential that we
focus more on football rather than waste our money and energy on a game which
has become the current obsession.
IFA has decided to send a letter to Mohun Bagan
27.07.2009 :: The recent comments of Mohun Bagan General Secretary

IFA Secretary Mr. Utpal Ganguly said in a press meet.
However, in the contract it was written that East Bengal had paid Rs. 1 lakh to
Snehasish, but later they denied that they did not pay anything to him. So, since
there was no payment, the contract has been canceled and after paying the
fine, he will be a free player and can play in any club of his choice.
Earlier The player claimed that his signature on the contract was forged. East
Bengal claimed that all the signatures were indeed by the player. The IFA decided
to seek experts' opinion to verify the signature of Snehasish in their last meeting
on 18th July.
The media asked to IFA PSC members against this decision today and asked why
East Bengal was not fined for lying in the contract that they had paid Rs. 1 lakh
to the player.
Mohun Bagan official Debasish Dutta said, "The decision was most unfortunate and
we will give him full support. The whole meeting was a gotup one. Earlier in
Baichung issue also they failed to take any decision against the guilty one, this
time also they failed to do so."
East Bengal officials were happy with the decision and said, "It showed that we
have not done any mistake, Snehasish has lied to us and so he has been fined.
We are very happy with this decision."
After hearing the IFA Players Status Committee Decision, Snehasish
Chakrabarty told to the press that after getting the papers from IFA he will
appeal to AIFF about his issue.

Baichung Bhutia has sent a reminder letter to AIFF
21.07.2009 :Baichung Bhutia, presently in Indian National Football Team's training camp at La
Masia, Barcelona under Bob Houghton, has sent a reminder letter to AIFF asking
to take quick decision about his matter which IFA handed over to AIFF Players
Status Committee on 9th July GB meeting in Kolkata.
Out of the Five Members of Players Status Committee of AIFF, one member from
Bengal, Debasish Banerjee has not yet sent his opinion due to lack of some
documents regarding Baichung which he asked Alberto Colaco to provide him.
He wanted from Colaco the Contract Agreement copy of Baichung and Mohun
Bagan, IFA interim order copy to AIFF which Mr. Banerjee has not yet got from
Colaco even though a week has passed.
PSC chairman KP Sunny had already sent his opinion while SA Rehman from
Karnataka is now in Australia. Another member Antonio Botelho of Goa also said
earlier that he wanted more documents before deciding on the matter.
Some sources said that, Baichung Bhutia may get support from AIFF vice-president
as well as President of Karnataka Football Association AR Khaleel who felt the
India captain should be protected at any cost.
With at least one PSC member yet to give opinion, the Bhutia issue seems unlikely
to come up in Wednesday's AIFF emergency committee meeting in New Delhi.
No Footballers name in Arjuna, Dronacharya Award

(Dempo S.C) and Renedy Singh's (East Bengal Club) for the Arjuna Award .The
federation has also sent the name of Dempo coach Armando Colaco for
Dronacharya Award.
But none was selected like previous years despite the Indian
team's winning run in the last few years. In 2007 the AIFF executive
committee were recommended legendary Pradeep Kumar Banerjee, the former India
captain and coach for the Dronacharya award along with the names of Jo Paul
Ancheri and S Venkatesh Arjuna awards. From 2003 to 2009 there are no

Cameroonian legendary Roger Milla contacts with Chirag United
07. 07.2009 : ::07. 07.2009 : ::Africa's legendary Footballer of the year in 1976, and
famous World Cupper Roger Milla of Cameroon recently contacted I-League
football team Chirag United of Kolkata. He contacted Nabab Bhattacharyya,
one of the Directors of Chirag United S.C . He heard the name of Chirag united,
from Dudu omagbemari who is now playing in Hungary.
Milla ,currently a member of FIFA Executive committee told Mr. Bhattacharyya
(as he said to our reporter) that he wants to send quality footballers to play in
Chirag United. Roger Milla (while playing for Diamond club) also played a match
against Kolkata Giant Mohun Bagan on 21st November 1990.
Mr. Bhattacharyya has not yet responded back but is very glad to get the offer
and is thinking about it.
Of note, Roger Milla took Cameroon into uncharted territory for an African team as
they reached the quarter-finals of the 1990 FIFA World Cup in Italy. Incredibly,
he also played four years later in the United States. Roger Milla at 38 was the star
of the Cameroon team of 1990, scoring four goals as they became the first
African side to reach a World Cup quarter-final.
Last October 2007 when he came to Hyderabad for World Military Games, he told
the press that "I had been to Kolkata sometime back and spent three weeks
there. They are really passionate about the sport. There is tremendous interest
of football there. I believe that sincere efforts should be made to rope in
youngsters into sport by several development programmes. If given the
encouragement and exposure, there is the talent here to move up the
international ranks".
Constantine agrees with Booth on static selection policy
07. 07.2009 : Mario Rodrigues, Mumbai ::Former national coach Stephen
Constantine feels that there is merit in the argument of David Booth that there is
no fresh talent coming into the Indian team and the same set of players have
been turning out in the tricolour for the last few years.
The Mahindra United coach had ‘lashed out’ at current India coach Bob Houghton for the latter’s
adverse comments on the football scene in the country and the manner in which
the game is being administered.
“It’s a fact, Booth is right in that there needs to be youth coming through. Boothy
has a point in that if there aren’t any players coming, through what happens
after, say 1-2 years?” Constantine queried in an email to this writer.
The Anglo-Cypriot coach, who is currently in charge of the Sudanese national
team, contrasted the present approach with his own track record when he was
at the helm of affairs here a few years ago.
“Simply put, Houghton has taken advantage of the work we did…Remember the team I took to LG Cup (in Vietnam),
Asian Games (Busan) and then the Milk Cup (Northern Ireland)? I went out and
found players and developed them so that we had the youngsters coming through,
” he stated.
Constantine however puts the blame for the lack on new talent on the clubs. “The
clubs do nothing at the youth level, and that is one of the biggest problems,” he
said.

Strike to affect South Africa world Cup 2010 stadium construction
03.07.2009 ::: ::Soccer World Cup 2010 Stadium Construction would be halted if a payment dispute
between construction workers and their employers
are not resolved properly. South Africa's biggest union `The National Union of
Mineworkers (NUM)` on Tuesday confirmed its members in the construction
sector would launch a strike over pay next week. ’A strike action is set to begin
on July 8,’ said NUM spokesman Lesiba Seshoka.
A prolonged strike
could cause partial shut down of an economy and could scare foreign investors.
The N.U.M said the strike action, which already halted the construction of a 2010
World Cup stadium in Durban, would spread to other 2010 projects if their
demands for more bonuses and safer working environment are not met by Monday.
The union said it had served the construction sector’s employer body with a
notice to go on strike after prolonged wage talks brokered by the Commission for
Conciliation Mediation and Arbitration collapsed on Friday.
The strike
could halt work on the World Cup infrastructure as well as the mass transit
Gautrain high-speed rail project, power stations, an airport, a refinery, a coal
terminal, hospitals, highways and mining projects.
"Its not just the World
Cup stadiums that will be affected, we are talking about power stations, hospitals,
roads and the like. It will last until the employers come to their senses and offer
a 13 percent wage increase for one year." Lesiba Seshoka, the NUM's spokesman
said.
The employers' organisation said it would ask the courts to bar a
strike, saying an agreement between the parties blocks the union from striking
before the end of August this year.

"I'm in the Football Administration for the love
Not for Money" Subrata Dutta
With Deigo Maradona in Kolkata
02.07.2009 ::: ::During the executive committee meeting of AIFF which
was held on 12th June at Football House, New
Delhi, All India Football Federation’s Executive Committee accepted Colaco's resignation but also
requested him to continue until a new General Secretary is appointed. Acting president of AIFF Praful
Patel requested Mr. Colaco whether he has any name in his mind about his successor and subseuqently
Mr. Patel released Mr. Colaco from his post and entrusted him with the job of finding a new secretary.
Mr. Patel also told that Colaco will continue until they find a new successor.
The AIFF on Monday set in motion the process of recruiting its new General Secretary by publishing
advertisement for the post which will bring an end to incumbent Alberto Colaco’s stint of eight years.
The last date of Receving application is 15th July.
Meanwhile, there are lots of rumours going on about who will be the next General Secretary. Few media
are even spreading rumours that current AIFF Vice President as well as IFA Vice President Subrata
Dutta is leading the race to be the next G. Sec.
Today we talked to the owner of The George Telegraph Group of Companies and AIFF And IFA Vice President Mr.Subrata Dutta. He laughed off by hearing that he is in the race to be the next General Secretary.
He said to our reporter, "I feel strongly that it would be a demotion for me to accept the post of a
General Secretary post in AIFF, more so it being a paid post."
He also added "I am in the Football Administration for the love of the game and not
to drive any monetary benefits out of it. I think those of who are writing all these
useless stuff are day dreaming. If anybody is happy by writing baseless things
about me, I have nothing to say about it, may God bless them. I am also happy
that you at least asked my opinion and tried to find out the truth, thank you
again."

u can find evrything what you want about football.I really love this city , its ambience, its people
everything. Like Brazil, in Kolkata people really like football and are crazy about football. I am
very proud of Kolkata people who made me very happy in the years I played there. I really feel like
