Indian Football Association: Introduction



Football in Bengal has over the years acquired the status of a passion . Football here is the opium of masses. This love for the game transcends all demographics.

Historically, since the early 20th century, clubs from Bengal have dominated in various Tournaments not only in India but in the sub-continent as well.

The Indian Football Association (I.F.A) established in 1892, 43 years before the birth of All India football Federation(A.I.F.F),governs soccer in West Bengal professionally.

It has 266 affiliated units spread all over West Bengal.The two most important Tournaments organised by the Association are The Calcutta Football League and I.F.A Shield(This Tournament was started by the British Government and has been a major attraction till today) .They are held annualy and are more than 100 years old.
