MATCH REPORT

30.08.2013: Churchill Brothers   0-0   Salgaocar (Duler)

Churchill Brothers Press : Churchill Brothers Goa and Salgaocar FC played out a goalless draw in the Goa Pro League match played at the Duler Stadium on Friday.

The match saw the teams sharing almost equal possession and attacking each other at regular intervals. First it was the Portuguese midfielder, Hugo Machado playing his first official match for Churchill Brothers who created some problems for the Salgaocar defence in the 10th min of the first half when his ominous looking free kick was blocked by Augustine.

Salgaocar was quick to react and in the 13th minute, Gilbert's scuffed shot was blocked by Arindam Bhattacharya. Then in the next few minutes Salgaocar had two more promising attempts on goal but the Churchill Brothers defence held their fort.

Churchill Brothers did not have any significant attempts on goal, but they were keeping possession and controlling the mid field through Hugo Machado who had a brilliant game.

The second session began on the same easy note with both the teams making very few attempts on the goal. Once the half progressed the match picked up a bit of momentum and in the 70th min AleshSawant had a shy on the Salgaocar goal, Mickey Fernandes playing as a centre back, had passed the ball to the youngster but his shot was saved by the Salgoacar goalkeeper.

Churchill skipper Ravanan was holding the backline together with an impressive display of positional sense. He foiled many Salgaocar attacks by putting in some well-timed tackles. Last quarter of the match saw some action and in the added time Salgaocar had two attempts on the Churchill goal, but they could not find the winning goal. With this draw Churchill Brothers are on 14 points and top the Goa Pro League table.

29.08.2013: Dempo SC   0-0   Goa Velha (Duler)

CHARLES D'SOUZA - GFA : Goa Velha sports club played to a game plan to hold mighty Dempo sports club to a goalless draw, in the fifth round match of the Airtel Goa Pro-League, played at Duler grounds, here on Thursday. After today's match Dempo has 8 points, while Goa Velha has four points.

Though Dempo's dominated throughout the 90 minutes of duel, it was the stubborn Goa Velha defense, that gave their team the precious one point.

Coach Arthur Papas started with his two foreign imports Australian Simon Colosimo as stopper back and Brazilian Roberto Silva in the midfield, but nothing seem working right for the Blues as today's result against minnows Goa Velha, speaks volumes of it. .

In the very 9th minute, Romeo Fernandes reverse strike rebounded off the crossbar, while Roberto Silva's fierce shot brushed defender Wellington Fernandes legs, but as the ball was heading goal wards, keeper Dietmar Fernandes dived to his left to push the ball for a corner.

Coach Arthur Papas further reinforced his midfield by bringing in Godwin Franco in the 35th minute to assist Roberto Silva, Peter Carvalho and Mandar Dessai. Godwin's stiff grounder was collected by keeper Dietmar, a couple of minutes before the breather.

At the very start of the second half keeper Dietmar thwarted Nickson in one to one situation. Myron Fernandes who had scored in the last two matches was brought in for Nickson Castana in the 55th minute, where his hot blooded shot off Roberto's pass was brilliantly blocked for a corner by keeper Dietmar.

Goa Velha's did try a couple of shots at the rival goal through Royston Pereira and Alber Gonsalves but it had no direction.

However the best chance for them came in the 79th minute from a defensive error between keeper Laxmikant Kattimani and stopper back Creson Antao, but Alber Gonsalves placement went inches past the side post, to the relief of Dempo supporters.

Dempo poured players forward in the final minutes, with Roberto and Peter Carvalho building the attack from the midfield but could not find the way past the inspired keeper Dietmar Fernandes who played his debut match and came out triumphantly.

In the dying minutes Romeo Fernandes goal bound header was blocked on the goal line by Naveen Mendes with the defense beaten.

Churchill Brothers were missing key players like Henri Antchouet, Ravanan D., RajuYumnam through injury and Micky Fernandes due to a suspension. What was looking as a slow paced build up to the game, suddenly picked up speed in the 7th Minute when BineeshBalan scuffed his long ranger.

Then in the 14th minute Jaison Vales gave the Red Machines the lead when he rounded up the Sesa Football Academy, goalkeeper and placed the ball into the net from an acute angle towards the left. AleshSawant who was looking sharp on the left wing had played the through ball.

Sesa FA were not taken aback by the Churchill Brothers lead and in the 22nd minutes they came close to scoring but Olvin Cardozo shot from the left went wide. 24thminutes into the match, sawSesacoming even closer when their forward SahilTavora's shot was just parried away by the Churchill Brothers goalkeeper Arindam Bhattacharya.

Second half started on a quick note with both the teams playing attacking football. Arindam Bhattacharya then made a brilliant save to foil ChukwudiChukwyma in the 53rd minute on a one on one situation. Then in the 54th minute Jaison Vales scored when he chested in an Anthony Barbosa cross. 23.08.2013: Dempo SC   6-0   Margao SC (Duler - FT)
Dempo: Myron(2), Romeo(2),Billy, Beto

CHARLES D'SOUZA - GOA : Dempo sports club came back strongly in the second session to demolish Margao sports club by 6-0 margin, in the Airtel Goa Pro-League round four match, played at Duler grounds, here on Friday. With today's win Dempo’s has seven points, while Margao are at the bottom of the league table with zero points.

Dempo's man in charge Arthur Papas started English Billy Mehmet as lone striker with Roberto Silva and Godwin Franco in the midfield and Peter Carvalho in an unusual role as stopper back, along with Debabrata Roy. It was some marvelous defending by Michael Faleiro, Rauf Khan, Wellington Rodrigues and Frehauf Fernandes restricted Margao colts in holding Dempo to a goalless draw in the first session of play.

In the 8th minute of play Roberto's 20-yard free kick sailed inches over the Margao's cross piece. Two timely clearances in the 18th minute by Michael Faleiro, who disposed Billy Mehmet and in the 26th minute Mackliston Faleiro, came with a superb clearance to deny Romeo Fernandes giving finishing touches.

In the 28th minute Romeo set up Roberto Silva just outside the penalty box, whose placement was paired for a corner by keeper Gurdev Singh with a diving save. Probably a dressing down by the Chief Coach, during the breather must have done the trick.

The Blues players returned transformed, showing more urgency, application and finesse, yet Margao defense still managed to keep their slate clean with keeper Gurdev blocking Roberto's 20-yard shot and Macklistan Faleiro bringing a goal line save to deny Billy from scoring. However it was Myron Fernandes who came from the bench for Nickson Castanha, opened the floodgates for Dempo’s, in the 64th minute of play. Myron's header off Roberto's had all the class written on it, 1-0.

There was no looking back for the Blues, as they hammered five more goals through Romeo Fernandes (2), Roberto Silva, Myron Fernandes and Billy Mehmet who scored his first goal in Dempo’s colours.

Tomorrow's fixtures:

Airtel Goa Pro-League: Tuff Laxmi Prasad vs Goa Velha SC at Duler grounds, at 4.15 p.m.

22.08.2013: Salgaocar   3-0   Wilred Leisure (Duler)
SAL : Aslon, Duffy - 2
SAL :Albino, Nicolau, Chika, Augustin, Milagres, Gilbert, Clifton, Rocus, Karma, Aslon, Marcus.

CHARLES D'SOUZA - GOA : Salgaocar Football Club trounced Wilred Leisure Sports Club 3-0 in a round four match of Airtel Goa Pro-League football at Duler Stadium, here, Thursday. Salgaocar led 1-0 at the breather. Salgaocar maintained their fourth consecutive clean sheet as they top the table with 12 points while Wilred are in the ninth place with just one point.

Salgaocar got off to flying start and surged ahead in the 12th minute when Aslon Oliveira picked a clever ball from medio Clifon Dias and finished neatly past Wilred custodian Jovial Coutinho, 1-0. Eight minutes later, Wilred's Benzu Clemente brought down Marcus Marcarenhas inside the danger zone and Salgaocar could have doubled their advantage but Milagres Gonsalves's penalty hit side post.

At the other end, Wilred were trying hard to make their presence in the game but Bazileo powerful long ranger was blocked by Salgaocar goalkeeper Albino Gomes, which was the only time they came close in the 38th minute. Just before the lemon break, Salgaocar were unlucky yet again, when Marcus's effort hit the upright and then Karma Tsewang failed to tap in the open goal after cleverly getting past goalkeeper Jovial.

Changing over, Salgaocar coach Derrick Pereira brought in strikers Bali Gag=ndeep and Scottish Darryl Duffy. The duo worked tirelessly and kept the rival defenders on their toes. In the 87th minute, Darryl scored his team'ss second goal off a low cross from substitute Brian Mascarenhas, 2-0.

Salgaocar's Nicolao Colaco moved dangerously inside the rival territory, but he was brought down by Wilred'ss Bonny Niasso in the injury time. Referee Anthony Simoes booked Bonny and awarded Salgaocar their second penalty of the evening which was coolly converted this time by Darryl.

Tomorrow'ss Fixtures:

21.08.13: SESA GOA   1-2   SANTA CRUZ (Duler)
SES : Inacio Colaco (Pen),
SAN : Chukwudi, Prestly Colaco

CHARLES D'SOUZA- GOA : St Cruz Club of Cavelossim earned their first win of the campaign as they edged past Sesa Football Academy 2-1 in a round four match of Airtel Goa Pro League football at Duler Stadium, here, on Wednesday. The winners led 1-0 at half time.

Sesa fielded their second string and their worst fears came true when Cavelossim strated strongly and surged ahead in the 18th minute through a penalty. It was Cavelossim midio Inacio Colaco's clever long ball to striker Adwin Lucas that caught the Sesa defence off-balance as defender Ganesh Thakur brought down Adwin inside the danger zone to receive a booking from referee Chandrashekar Shirodkar, who immediately pointed out to spot. Inacio stepped up for the spot-kick and coolly slotted home past Sesa goalkeeper Thockchom Singh.

Then onwards, Cavelossim dominated the proceedings and did not allow their rivals to get back into the game. At the other hand, Sesa were struggling to create any dangerous moves as their midfield ran out of ideas. However, their best chance to equalize five minutes before the lemon break when Agnelo Colaco sent a dangerous cross from the right flank but neither striker Olvin Cardozo onrushing Chukwudi Chukwuma could make justice to Agnelo's hardwork as the duo failed to connect.

Post resumption, Sesa crawled their way back and equalized in the 49th minute as Chukwudi shot past Cavelossim custodian Jaison D’Mello with a deft placement off an intelligent pass from Ashley Araujo.

However, Cavelossim scored their second in the 59th minute when Marcus Fernandes stretched his muscle in the right flanks and crossed to Prestly Colaco, who beautifully head in past the rival custodian from a narrow angle.

Sesa went all out but were unlucky as Dom Rocha's effort kissed the horizontal bar in the 68th minute and then in the 75th minute Perryson should have done better before aiming the upright from close range with only the rival custodian at his mercy.

Laxmi Prasad went into the breather, with a two goals cushion, from opportunist Alvito Miranda, who was at the right place at the right time to perform the scoring act. It was a one -way traffic from the Mapusa based side who dominated, in the 90 minutes duel.

Goa Velha had one good attempt at the rival goal in the 42nd minute, but a firm header by Blake Haldankar's off a free kick by Nester Dias sailed inches over the crosspiece.

An excellent tip over the crosspiece by keeper U-20 Albino Gomes, in the very 4th minute on crossing over denied Goa Velha’s Nester Dias 25-yard free kick, getting the equalizer. Minutes later Clifton Dias, who worked tirelessly, saw his shot at the goal blocked by keeper Milagrio off a pass by Aslon.

Surprisingly Flaming Oranje had only one threatening move in the entire half, which materialized into a goal. Clemente Joseph cross from the right flank went to unmarked Boima Karpeh who drilled a power pecked right footer which was blocked by the keeper, to find Cajetan Fernandes who was lurking nearby scored, 1-0.

Dempo Sports Club held St. Cruz Club Cavelossim to a 1-1 draw in their second round match of the Goa Pro-League, played at Duler Stadium, Mapusa on Sunday.

Dempo who are yet to find their maiden win of the new season, were left frustrated throughout the match as they enjoyed majority of the ball possession but could not find the nets more than once.

Cavelossim were the ones who moved into the lead in the 21st minute when midfielder Wilton Gomes won the ball from Dempo defender Creson Antao to relay it to striker Agnelo D'Souza. The latter coolly lobbed the ball over Dempo's onrushing keeper Laxmikant Kattimani to give the underdogs a surprise lead. This was the only note-worthy move made by the Cavelossim side in the first session of play.

Dempo failed to make the most out of their ball possession. Dempo's West Ham United Academy product Billy Mehmet often made room for himself but fortunes weren't on his side.

In the second half, Dempo entered the pitch with clear intentions to get back into the game. After constant probing, the Blues finally neutralized the rival's lead. Roberto Silva executed a deadly corner kick to find Billy whose shot was blocked by Cavelossim keeper Jason D'Mello.

However, the ball remained in the penalty area and eventually Peter Carvalho got the ball into the nets from the goal-mouth melee.

A fine move by Olvin Cardozo in the very 6th minute saw Nigerian Chukwudi Chukwuma outsmart Salgaocar defender Rosario Mendes, but U-20 keeper Albino Gomes came with a breath taking save to deny them a goal.

That was the only threatening move from the Sesa Academy lads in the entire first session, though they were very impressive by their short passing and ball possession.

Sesa defense was well marshaled by Jayganesh Goltekar and Ponif Vaz, which finally fell in the 30th minute off a half heartedly clearance by Sesa keeper Jerson Pereira, which was intercepted by Gilbert Oliveira who relayed the ball to U-20 Aslon Oliveira, in turn passed to Clifton Dias, who finished with a stiff grounder, 1-0.

Sporting Goa's Cajitan Fernandes opened the scoring in the 27th minute with a rasping shot from outside the box which caught the rival goalkeeper off guard. Within sixty seconds, Jerry headed in a Pratesh cross to double the lead and within six minutes Jerry placed the ball coolly into the corner to make it three.

CHARLES D'SOUZA - GOA : Joseph Pereira's injury time first half goal enabled Sporting clube de Goa register a solitary goal win over Dempo sports club, in the seventh round match of the Airtel Goa Pro–League, played at Duler grounds here onc Saturday. With today's absorbing win Sporting takes the second spot with 16 points, while Dempo's stays on fourth place with 11 points.

Dempo's stand-by coach Maurico Afonso played Japanese Shinnosuke Honda along with Creson Antao in the central defense for his debut match, while Sporting’s man in charge Oscar Bruzon partnered Spanish Arturo Garcia with Rojen Singh in the defense.

Brazilian Roberto Silva shouldered the responsibility pretty well in the absence of Godwin Franco and Peter Carvalho for the Blues, while Pratesh Shirodkar along with Rowllin Borges controlled the midfield remarkably well for Flaming Oranje, in the absence of Nigerian Kalu Ogba.

Sporting were indeed a better side in the first session of play, but Liberian Boima Karpeh's three chances inside the penalty box off Joseph Periera’s twice and Cajetan Fernandes, saw the Liberian fail to deliver the goods. The best chance for the Flaming Oranje came in the 20th minute of play, where Mauvin Borges flashed the ball from the right flank across the Dempo's goal area, only to find unmarked Joseph Pereira connect the ball over the crossbar.

In a counter attack move Dempo's Romeo Fernandes set up Myron Fernandes inside the 18-yard box, but the latter fumbled in front of the goal. Mauvin Borges was cautioned by referee Franky Fernandes for simulation inside the penalty box, in the 40th minute.

From all the hard work put in by the Sporting players they rightly deserved to go into the breather with a goal, which finally came from a fine move initiated by Spanish Arturo Garcia who passed the ball to Boima who outsmarted defender Honda and sent the ball on the platter to Joseph Pereira who finished clinically, 1.0.

The change of ends saw Maurico Afonso bring in former International Sameer Naik, who moved in the midfield and floated the ball to Myron Fernandes who relayed the ball to Romeo Fernandes whose hot blooded shot was brilliantly blocked for a corner by Sporting keeper Ravi Kumar.

Liberian import Boima Karpeh failed to abide by the fair play oath taken by his captain, at the start of the match, as in the 66th minute of play with Jessel Carneiro lying injured on the field he refused to let go of the ball advantage he had, so that the Dempo player could be attended. However despite Dempo side being distracted with the injury, he still couldn't convert his move into a goal. Confrontation between Dempo keeper Subhasish Roy Chowdhury and Boima Karpeh was stopped by the referee and both the teams’ players, over the incident.

The Blues did play with more aggression and thrust after the lemon break but the Sporting's last line of defense match them with equal determination. In the 83rd minute Sporting's Pratesh Shirodkar worked up the right flank and drove a power pecked shot which was blocked by Honda with a headerfor a corner.

06.09.13: SESA GOA   4-0   GOa Velha (Duler)
SES : Chukwuma 21', Glan Martins 30', Sahil 32', 55'

CHARLES D'SOUZA - GOA : Sesa Football Academy thrashed Goa Velha Sports Club 4-0 in a round seven match of Goa Airtel Pro League football at Duler Stadium, here, Friday. Sesa led 3-0 at the breather. Sesa move up to the sixth spot with 10 points while Goa Velha remained in the eighth position with seven points.

Sesa striker Chukwudi Chukwuma was back after serving a one-match suspension and it took the Nigerian 21 minutes to open the floodgates. He then scored his second, post resumption while Glan Martins and Sahil Tavora were the other scorers for the academy boys.

Goa Velha's Manuel Crasto kept the rival defenders on their toes with swift runs down the flanks as one of his dangerous cross from the right found Wellington Fernandes inside the danger zone but the latter's powerful header missed the mark narrowly in the 10th minute, which was their only attacking move in the entire match.

Then onwards, Sesa dominated the proceeding and surged ahead in the 21stminute. The move started in the right flank with Yogesh Kadam muscling past his marker and releasing Sahil, who sent in a defence splitting pass to Chukwudi inside the box and the striker finished with a rasping left-footer past the helpless rival custodian.

Sesa continued with the same momentum and doubled their advantage at the half hour mark. Goal scorer Chukwudi turned provider as he set up Glan Martins, who nodded in a rebound after his initial shot was blocked by rival goalkeeper Dietmar Fernandes. Minutes later it was all over for Goa Velha as hardworking Sahil got on to the score sheet with a beautiful chip over the rival custodian.

Chukwudi could have scored two more but couldn't convert from close range and then, just before the lemon break his stiff grounder hit the upright. Changing over, Goa Velha started attackingly and were trying hard to get back into the match but their plans were foiled when Chukwudi scored his second of the evening.

In the 66th minute, Goa Velha's Atish Madkaikar thought he had scored but he was flagged off-side by referee's assistant Milagres Noronha. Earlier, before the kick-off, Jayganesh Gotlekar and Agnelo Barreto, captains of Sesa and Goa Velha respectively took the Fair Play oath to mark the FIFA Fair Play days.
