30.08.2013: Churchill Brothers 0-0 Salgaocar (Duler)
Churchill Brothers Press : Churchill Brothers Goa and Salgaocar FC played out a goalless draw in the Goa Pro League match played at the Duler Stadium on Friday.
The match saw the teams sharing almost equal possession and attacking each other at regular intervals. First it was the Portuguese midfielder, Hugo Machado playing his first official match for Churchill Brothers who created some problems for the Salgaocar defence in the 10th min of the first half when his ominous looking free kick was blocked by Augustine.
Salgaocar was quick to react and in the 13th minute, Gilbert's scuffed shot was blocked by Arindam Bhattacharya. Then in the next few minutes Salgaocar had two more promising attempts on goal but the Churchill Brothers defence held their fort.
Churchill Brothers did not have any significant attempts on goal, but they were keeping possession and controlling the mid field through Hugo Machado who had a brilliant game.
The second session began on the same easy note with both the teams making very few attempts on the goal. Once the half progressed the match picked up a bit of momentum and in the 70th min AleshSawant had a shy on the Salgaocar goal, Mickey Fernandes playing as a centre back, had passed the ball to the youngster but his shot was saved by the Salgoacar goalkeeper.
Churchill skipper Ravanan was holding the backline together with an impressive display of positional sense. He foiled many Salgaocar attacks by putting in some well-timed tackles. Last quarter of the match saw some action and in the added time Salgaocar had two attempts on the Churchill goal, but they could not find the winning goal. With this draw Churchill Brothers are on 14 points and top the Goa Pro League table.

Though Dempo's dominated throughout the 90 minutes of duel, it was the stubborn Goa Velha defense, that gave their team the precious one point.

In the very 9th minute, Romeo Fernandes reverse strike rebounded off the crossbar, while Roberto Silva's fierce shot brushed defender Wellington Fernandes legs, but as the ball was heading goal wards, keeper Dietmar Fernandes dived to his left to push the ball for a corner.
Coach Arthur Papas further reinforced his midfield by bringing in Godwin Franco in the 35th minute to assist Roberto Silva, Peter Carvalho and Mandar Dessai. Godwin's stiff grounder was collected by keeper Dietmar, a couple of minutes before the breather.
At the very start of the second half keeper Dietmar thwarted Nickson in one to one situation. Myron Fernandes who had scored in the last two matches was brought in for Nickson Castana in the 55th minute, where his hot blooded shot off Roberto's pass was brilliantly blocked for a corner by keeper Dietmar.
Goa Velha's did try a couple of shots at the rival goal through Royston Pereira and Alber Gonsalves but it had no direction.
However the best chance for them came in the 79th minute from a defensive error between keeper Laxmikant Kattimani and stopper back Creson Antao, but Alber Gonsalves placement went inches past the side post, to the relief of Dempo supporters.
Dempo poured players forward in the final minutes, with Roberto and Peter Carvalho building the attack from the midfield but could not find the way past the inspired keeper Dietmar Fernandes who played his debut match and came out triumphantly.
In the dying minutes Romeo Fernandes goal bound header was blocked on the goal line by Naveen Mendes with the defense beaten.
