3rd EK Nayanar Memorial Gold Cup 2010, Kerala

Kannur, the native place of late Shri Nayanar once enjoyed the power and passion of Indian football. Even in fifties and sixties, National level football tournaments were held at Kannur. Kannur has proudly gifted outstanding sports personalities and renowned players like P.T Usha, Jimmy George, M D Valsamma, Olympion Devadas, former Indian Football captain (Late) V.P. Satyan, International Goalkeeper C. Musthafa and a few others. Recollecting the said cherished memories, the organizers of the permanently by any team which could win the tournament for three consecutive years. The decision of conducting a National level football tournament at Kannur as thus emerged and materialized. The1st tournament was conducted in 2007 and the 2nd in 2008.

International Teams from Argentina, Brazil and Nigeria have participated in the tournament during previous years. FC Ghana raised the trophy for the first time. The tournament has become a historical event with the participation of thousands of people from various parts of Kerala. Eight national teams including Mohan Bagan and East Bengal are expected to participate in this year’s tournament.

During the previous year, we could conduct the tournament in a grand gala because of the whole-hearted co-operation and support extended by people belong to various fields. E.K Nayanar Memorial Football Tournament is evolving as one of the main football tournaments in India. This year’s tournament is scheduled during February month. The tournament will begin on 7th February and will end on 28th February.
