The draw for the 2011-12 UEFA Champions League group stage was conducted today in Monaco. Defeding champion Barcelona drew AC Milan, FC BATE Borisov and FC Viktoria PlzeN. Second-place finisher Manchester United drew SL Benfica (POR), FC Basel 1893 (SUI), FC OTelul GalaTi (ROU).
Meanwhile, FC Bayern Munich will play against Manchester City in group play. The city of Munich will host the final on May 19, 2012.
The UEFA Champions League will now enter into the "Group Stage" with Matchday 1 starting on September 13th through 14th.

A Knockout Phase will follow the Group Stage. The Round of 16 will have a draw date of December 16th, 2011, with play beginning in mid-February. The final will be held on May 19th, 2012.

PRIZE MONEY
As of 2010-11, UEFA awards Euro 2.1 million to each team in the play-offs round. For reaching the group stage, UEFA awards Euro 3.9 million, plus Euro 550,000 per group match played.
A win in the group is awarded Euro 800,000 and a draw is worth Euro 400,000. In addition, UEFA pays teams reaching the first knockout round Euro 3 million, each quarter finalist Euro 3.3 million, Euro 4.2 million for each semi-finalist, Euro 5.6 million for the runners-up and Euro 9 million for the winners.
A large part of the distributed revenue from the UEFA Champions League is linked to the "market pool", the distribution of which is determined by the value of the television market in each country. For the 2010-11 season, Manchester United, which lost in the final, earned nearly Euro 53.2 million in total, compared with the Euro 51.0 million earned by Barcelona, which won the tournament.

Manchester United's 1-0 victory over Barcelona in the semi-finals was their 12th consecutive home victory beat Italy's Juventus' 10 victory between 1995-96 and 1997-98 seasons.
The final between Chelsea and Manchester United was the first all-English final in the history and the third ever final between two teams from the same country.
Like 2008-2009, this season was the first season in the competition's history that four teams from the same country reached the quarter-final stage (England's Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United).
For the first time in Champions League history, Arsenal were eliminated by Liverpool, who were beaten by Chelsea, who were defeated by Manchester United in the final.
