AIFF PRESS RELEASE : Aizawl witnessed an intense encounter between home team Aizawl FC and the Red Machines from Goa – Churchill Brothers FC Goa, played on Wednesday, January 8, 2020. The match ended in a hard-fought 2-2 draw, much to the disappointment of the home crowd who were there to witness a potential first home win of the season. With the draw, Aizawl FC are placed fifth on the points table with nine points from seven games whereas Churchill Brothers go to the top of the charts with 10 points from five matches.

08.01.2020: AIZAWL FC <b> <font color=red> 2-2 </b></font> CHURCHILL BROTHERS (FT) (FT)

Aizawl FC started with a few new names in the line-up today which saw the inclusion of the January transfer import Ramhlunchhunga. There was another change which was seen in the form of Lalrosanga who was playing in the position of Joseph Adjei who was out due to his suspension in the last match against Gokulam Kerala FC.

The match started on a slow note as neither team looked dominant from the onset. The first major moment came in the 29th minute with a set-piece from Kalif Alhassan of Churchill Brothers. His dipping strike at the goal was going to find the lower right corner of the net when the Aizawl keeper carrying his form from the last match made a diving save to his right. Churchill Brothers again got a chance with a free shot for Vinil Poojary soon after but his strike from inside the box just went wide.

The moment of reckoning finally came in the 44th minute as a low cross from the right flank by Joe Zoherliana was foiled by the away keeper and it fell to Aizawl’s Abdoulaye Kanoute who made no mistake and tapped the ball into the net from close range. Aizawl went into half-time leading 1-0.The second half resumed and it had a different flavour to it. Churchill Brothers came out with more attacking intent and looked sharper. Another factor was also the introduction of Israil Gurung — their set-piece expert at half-time who proved his worth immediately.

In the 64th minute, Israil got a free-kick from the right side of the Aizawl box and produced a dangerous curling strike which produced a save from the home team’s keeper but he couldn’t control it and the loose ball was finally tapped in Robert Jr. Primus to level the score at 1-1.Both teams were now trying to score the winning goal but Aizawl fell behind in the 78th minute as a poor defensive clearance by the team resulted in a close-range strike by Vinil Poojary giving the away team a 2-1 lead.

The onus was now on Aizawl and on a day when the Churchill goalkeeper wasn’t at his best, they fancied their chances of a comeback. In the 80th minute, a cross from the left side of the box was spilt by the Churchill keeper and the ball landed for an easy tap in at the feet of Isak Vanlalruatfela. He made no mistake and smashed the ball in the back of the net levelling the score at 2-2.In the dying moments of the match, both teams tried to score a goal but none could create a clear chance. The match ended with the scores level, which also marks the fourth consecutive draw for Aizawl FC at home.

AIFF PRESS RELEASE : Jonathan Lalrawngbawla scored one, and set another up for Rochharzela, while the latter scored the third Aizawl goal via a penalty. Meanwhile, Makan Winkle Chothe scored the first for Punjab FC, as Sergio Barboza scored the remaining two for Punjab. Aizawl FC head coach Stanley Rozario had a new reinforcement in the form of latest signing Joseph Adjei, who was one of the two changes in the starting lineup. The other change was in the form of Jonathan Lalrawngbawla, who started up front in what seemed like a traditional 4-4-2.
20.12.2019: Aizawl FC <b><font color=red> 3-3 </b></font> Punjab FC (FT..)
The Punjab FC line-up featured a catalogue of changes from their previous match against Indian Arrows. Head coach Yan Law reinstated Anwar Ali to his XI. Bali Gagandeep was also given the nod, as was young Manipuri winger Makan Winkle Chothe, to spearhead a 4-3-3. The match kicked off in pulsating fashion and it took only four minutes for the first goal to arrive. Joe Zoeherliana played a calculated pass into the 18-yard box, and Jonathan Lalrawngbawla, better known as Jo Jo, did well to reach it and with his outstretched leg and got just enough to see the ball over the line as Aizawl took the lead.

It took Punjab only a minute to reply, as the visitors went level in the fifth minute through a brilliant piece of improvisation by Chothe on the right flank. Through sheer persistence, he made his way into the box, and following a cutback to his left, fired in an unstoppable shot for the equaliser. In the 15th minute, Sergio Barboza Jr. displayed some samba flair at its finest, as he curled in a delicate, yet beautiful shot into the top right corner from just outside the box to give Punjab the lead.

Aizawl equalised just three minutes later, when Rochharzela soared high and with a towering header to meet Lalrawngbawla’s cross from the right, put the hosts level at 2-2. In the 40th minute, Aizawl earned a penalty for a handball by Thoiba Singh. Rochharzela stepped up and with fine aplomb and scored his second to restore Aizawl’s lead going into the breather.

In the second half, Punjab came out with serious intent but Aizawl did well to knit threats of their own. Yan Law introduced Dipanda Dicka for Bali Gagandeep, hoping that the Cameroonian striker would make another super-sub impact.Cavin Lobo, who was also introduced into the fray, almost equalised for a Punjab with a good left-footed drive inside the box, but was denied by an outstanding save by Aizawl keeper Lalremruata.

Rocharzzela almost doubled the lead for Aizawl, when he headed in a beautiful cross from Isak Vanlalruatfela towards goal, only to be denied by yet another spectacular save. In the sixth minute of stoppage time, Punjab appealed for a penalty and this time, it was awarded. Barboza stepped up and with great composure, made it 3-3 to bring an enthralling Hero I-League game, to an end. The draw takes Punjab FC to second place on the Hero I-League table, while Aizawl FC remain at sixth. Jo Jo was awarded the Hero of the Match.

This will be the first ever I-League match in floodlights at Rajib Gandhi Stadium in Aizawl. In match 20 of Hero I-League 2019-20, Aizawl FC and Chennai City FC split spoils in a hard-fought encounter played at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium today (December 17, 2019). Aizawl FC, in spite of having only 42% of the ball possession, looked more threatening for most of the match although they couldn’t find the winning goal. For Aizawl FC, William Lalnunfela scored in the 9th minute before Chennai City FC skipper Roberto Eslava drew the parity from the penalty spot in the 40th minute.

First half started with Chennai City FC looking the more fluent of the teams in the initial minutes. Aizawl FC, took a little time but they were soon in their groove. First major chance was created by Aizawl captain Alfred Jaryan who ran through the Chennai City defence and with an inch-perfect through ball released William Lalnunfela who didn’t make any mistake to put the Reds in front inside first 10 minutes.

In the 18th minute, Chennai got a free-kick outside the Aizawl box on the left and Katsumi delivered immaculately to his teammate but to Chennai’s dismay, the header didn’t find the target. Chennai’s relentless attacks were on and Ajith Kumar, after receiving a pass from Eslava, launched a long shot in the 35th minute. The lung-busting effort just went a whisker wide of the post.

As it was looking that the hosts would be going into the breather with a slender lead, Katsumi Yusa earned a penalty owing to a handball by Paul inside the Aizawl box. Eslava stepped up to take the spot-kick and cancelled Aizawl FC’s lead five minutes to the end of the regulation time. After the resumption, Lalnunfela again came agonisingly close to regain the lead but his shot went just wide. In the 76th minute, Chennai earned a corner but the header from Ajith went begging.

It was Aizawl again as in the 79th minute when the young midfielder Rochharzela showed exceptional skill to run past Chennai defenders but, only the goalkeeper left to be beaten, he squandered the golden opportunity. Barely three minutes later, Lalnunfela missed the target when he missed to tap in from handshaking distance. With the draw, Aizawl FC stay sixth with five points from four matches whereas Chennai City remain seventh having amassed one point fewer from three games.

AIFF PRESS RELEASE : Aizawl FC overcame a spirited young Indian Arrows to register their first win of the 13th Hero I-League season at the Tilak Maidan in Goa on Monday. The visitors from Mizoram rode on strikes from William Lalnunfela and Joe Zoherliana to snatch a dramatic victory in the stoppage time after Vikram Partap Singh had equalised for the hosts in the 81st minute.

Arrows head coach Shanmugam Venkatesh decided to field an unchanged starting eleven from his side that lost 0-1 at home to Gokulam Kerala in their season opener. Stanley Rozario, on the other hand, fielded a conventional 4-4-2 having made four changes from the side that lost to northeast rivals Neroca. Lalemruata started in goal ahead of Lalawmpuia, while new signing and Malian midfield Amadou Alou Sisokko also made the starting XI.
09.12.2019 : INDIAN ARROWS - (<b><font color=red> 1-2 </b></font>) - AIZAWL FC ( FT.)
On a quest for their first win, both sides kicked-off the proceedings with an intent to press hard. The young Arrows, in the initial minutes, exhibited neat passes and structured movement. Aizawl, on the other hand, displayed fine defensive solidarity, with Juuko Kassaga being a towering figure throughout the game, constantly frustrating the likes of Vikram and Harmanpreet. In the 31st minute, a beautifully lobbed pass by Rochharzela was chested down by Abdoulaye Kanoute with exquisite control and the Malian forward had a crack on goal but was denied in spectacular fashion by Samik Mitra.

Minutes before the break, a miscued headed clearance by Ajin Tom fell to the feet of Kanoute but he squandered the golden opportunity to put Aizawl ahead, as his effort went wide off the mark.In the second half, the Arrows nearly found an opening when Vikram was seemingly brought down by Kassaga inside the box, but referee Rosario Fernandes waved away all appeals for a penalty.

However, it was Aizawl who took the lead in the 64th minute. In an attempt to clear a cross from Isak Vanlalruatfela, Saurabh Meher deflected the delivery to the path of William Lalnunfela, and the substitute made no mistake tapping it in.Venkatesh’s side displayed great character and started dictating the tempo of the game. They were duly rewarded when a beautifully plotted run by Vikram led to him being through on goal and he made no mistake in earning a well-deserved equaliser for the Arrows.

However, all of Indian Arrows’ good work was undone. With four minutes added on, Aizawl continued to overload the final third. Lalnunfela broke through on the right inside the Arrows’ box and delivered a measured cross which was met by a leaping Joe Zoherliana with his head, to seal a dramatic 2-1 win for Stanley Rozario’s side.

With the victory, Aizawl move to third place in the Hero I-League table with four points while Indian Arrows remain at the bottom with two losses from as many games. Arrows goalkeeper Samik Mitra was adjudged to be the Hero of the Match for his calm and confident display under the woodwork.Indian Arrows will now travel to Punjab to face former champions Punjab FC on December 16, 2019. Aizawl FC will host reigning champions Chennai City FC one day later (December 17, 2019) which is going to be the first-ever Hero I-league match played under floodlights in Aizawl.

AIFF PRESS RELEASE : The first Northeastern derby of Hero I-League 2019-20 ended in a 1-0 win for Neroca FC as Ousmane Diawara’s goal in the 28th minute was the only separating point between the two teams. Aizawl FC, who dominated the possession with 57% of the ball possession, eventually failed to convert any of their 15 shots in the match.
06.12.2019 : NEROCA FC <b><font color=red> 1-0 </b></font> AIZAWL FC (FT)
The match started with both the teams looking to move forward in the initial moments of the game. Though Neroca FC were enjoying the majority of the possession, Aizawl looked sharp with their passing and running with the ball. The first major chance of the half came in the 13th minute for the home team but Chanso Horam, who had a clear shot on left flank failed to convert the same. With this first chance, Neroca FC was slowly growing in confidence and this time the chance came from the right side but the young no.9 Khaiminthang Lhungdim side-netted his shot in the 22nd minute.

The crunch moment of the game came in the 27th minute when Neroca got a free-kick from just outside the 18-yard box. Zodingliana was vested with the responsibility and a thunderous left-footed kick hit the goal post and Ousmane Diawara capitalized on the rebound, as he put the ball in the back of the net with 28 mins on the clock.

On the 34th minute, from a free-kick just outside the box, Aizawl FC’s Paul Ramfangzauva struck a thunderous shot but the Neroca FC Goalkeeper flew to his right and made a tremendous save to keep his team’s lead intact In the dying minutes of the half, Aizawl FC was making good advances especially down the right flank as Isak Vanlalruatfela was creating problems for the defence. With just a few seconds remaining in the first half, Neroca FC got another chance to double their lead but the shot on goal by Chanso Horam was deflected from the body of an Aizawl FC defender for a corner.

The first half ended with the home team leading 1-0. After the changeover, Aizawl FC got a corner but the resulting header was cleared by the Neroca FC defence from the goal line. In the 66th minute, Aizawl FC brought on K. Lalhmangaihkima for William Lalnunfela in order to provide better supply to Abdoulaye Kanoute. Soon after, Neroca FC made a tactical change by bringing on a midfielder Ronald Singh for Khaiminthang Lhungdim.

Aizawl FC was continuously pushing forward but wasn’t able to break the Neroca FC defence. The away team came very near to clinching an equaliser in the dying moments but the shot from the outside of the box rattled the Neroca FC goal post and went out of bound. The search for an equaliser finally ended in vain as Neroca FC held on to their slender lead and the match ended in favour of the home team.
