MINERVA PUNJAB FOOTBALL CLUB PRESENTED WITH HERO I-LEAGUE TROPHY

HERO I LEAGUE 2017-18 AWARD

22.03.2018-AIFF PRESS RELEASE : Hero I-League 2017-18 champions Minerva Punjab FC were presented with the Hero I-League trophy at a glittering function held at a snazzy hotel in Chandigarh today (March 22, 2018).

Best Goalkeeper: Shilton Paul (Mohun Bagan)

Jarnail Singh Award for Best Defender: Varney K Kallon (NEROCA FC)

Best Midfielder: Soosairaj Michael (Chennai City FC)

Best Forward: Chencho Gyeltshen (Minerva Punjab FC)

Highest Scorer: Dipanda Dicka (Mohun Bagan)

Best Emerging Player (U-22): Samuel Lalmuanpuia (Shillong Lajong FC)

Syed Abdul Rahim Award for Best Coach: Gift Raikhan (NEROCA FC)

Best Match Organiser: NEROCA FC

Fairplay Award: NEROCA FC

Mr. Kushal Das, General Secretary, All India Football Federation and Mr. Sunando Dhar, CEO, I-League graced the occasion where the crowned champions were bestowed with the coveted silverware. Minerva Punjab FC along with NEROCA FC, Mohun Bagan and Kingfisher East Bengal were alive on the title race until the final day of this season (March 8, 2018) but finally, the Khogen Singh-coached team edged Churchill Brothers FC Goa at their own backyard to clinch the silverware, thanks to the first-half strike by William Opoku Asiedu.

With Minerva Punjab FC's triumph, the trophy made a comeback to the Northern part of India after a prolonged wait of 21 years. Mr. Praful Patel, President, All India Football Federation lauded Minerva Punjab FC on their maiden I-League title. "Congratulations Minerva Punjab Football Club on winning the Hero I-League 2017-18 and gaining a spot in the ACL Qualifiers for the next season. The League has been a very competitive and exciting one and it was nice to see four teams having a chance to win it on the final day," he said in his message.

Mr. Kushal Das also congratulated Minerva Punjab FC on the achievement. "Well played Minerva Punjab Football Club, the deserving champions of the Hero I-League. The manner in which you sealed it is in itself a story. I trust the victory will encourage kids to follow and play the sport more.”

Mr. Sunando Dhar, CEO, I-League heaped lavish praise on their success and termed it as a 'landmark for Indian Football."He stated: "Minerva Punjab FC's win is a landmark for Indian Football, let alone the club itself. Their success rightly showed that proper planning and investment in youth development can help a club reach the summit."

Minerva Punjab FC are now gearing up to continue their fairy tale run in the Hero Super Cup 2018 where they'll face Jamshedpur FC in the round of 16 at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on April 2, 2018.

AIFF LAUNCHED I LEAGUE 2017-18

HERO I LEAGUE 2017-18 OPEN

21.11.2017: The 11th edition of Hero I-League - India's top football league, was officially launched at a glittering ceremony here today. This marks the beginning of yet another scintillating season of enthralling league football in the country. The Hero I-League kicks off on November 25, 2017 and culminates on March 6, 2018.

The Hero I-League is set to provide more excitement and inspiring action this year with the addition of three new teams from three different states. The three new additions are - Gokulam Kerala FC from Calicut, Neroca FC from Imphal, Manipur and Indian Arrows from Delhi. With their individual football cultures and heritage, these teams will significantly enhance the reach of the league in the country.

THIRD PLACE : 40 LAKHS

This edition will witness the country’s elite football league returning to the National Capital, with the AIFF developmental team, Indian Arrows, making a comeback. The India U-17 team head coach Luis Norton De Matos of Portugal would be their head coach. The team is a mix of India U-17 and India U-19 team players.

“This year is all about showcasing what the Hero I-League has been doing for years. Launching Indian football's future stars. History is testimony that the Hero I-League has laid the foundation for Indian football stars to go ahead and shine in their careers and make the country proud. The edition also pays special tribute to the coaches who create those stars with their dedication and commitment towards the beautiful game.

We are happy to welcome Kerala back in the league and the return of I-League football to Delhi. I believe these new developments along with the clubs from Northeast, West Bengal, Punjab, Tamil Nadu and Goa will make the league even more competitive and interesting. I would like to convey my best wishes to all the participating clubs of this year’s edition,” said Mr. Kushal Das, General Secretary, All India Football Federation.

I-LEAGUE TO KICK OFF AT LUDHIANA ON 25 TH NOVEMBER

KFC NEWS DESK- 14.10.17 : The much awaited derby Between the arch rival East Bengal and Mohun Bagan to be played at Yubabharati Kriangan, Kolkata on 3rd December and 18th January respectively. This was announced by AIFF while publishing the fixture of the forth coming I league.
