MOHAMMEDAN SC - RECPRDS OF ISFAQ AHMED IN FED CUP

13.01.2014: Mohammedan Sporting medio Ishfaq Ahmed considers Federation Cup to be his lucky tournament, as in the last 5 seasons, his team has played in the final 4 times, winning the trophy thrice. Record of Ishfaq Ahmed in Federation Cup.

2008 Champion (Mohun Bagan) : Final score - Mohun Bagan 1-0 Dempo SC

2009 Lost in Semi final (Mohun Bagan)

2010 Runners up (Mohun Bagan) : Final score - East Bengal 1-0 Mohun Bagan

2011 Champion (Salgaocar) : Final score - Salgaocar 3-1 East Bengal

2012 Champion (East Bengal) : Final Score - East Bengal 3-2 Dempo

Q. How do you rate performance of Mohammedan Sporting in this year's Federation Cup?

Ishfaq: We definitely have a good chance to clinch the title. We have already won the Durand Cup this year, and we will try our best to win this tournament also to make the fans happy.

Q.Do you think qualifying for the next round is a bit tough in this format?

Ishfaq: Yes, even if we win the first 2 games, the last game against Dempo will be a crucial one, because only 1 team will be qualifying for the next round out of the 4 teams. As I said, we will try our best to win all the games in the group league. Our first target will be to qualify for the semi finals. We have a very good team with a good Coach and I think we have a realistic chance of winning the Federation Cup this time.

Q.Federation Cup seems to be a very lucky tournament for you.

Ishfaq: (laughing) Yes, I have won it thrice in the last 4 years, once each for Mohun Bagan, Salgaocar and East Bengal. Definitely, I would like to make it 4 this year for Mohammedan Sporting.

USC PRESS RELEASE : United SC set to start Fed Cup campaign

United Sports Club will face Churchill Brothers in Kerala in their first Federation Cup group league match tomorrow. The squad had reached the venue a couple of days back and had regular practice sessions since then under the tutelage of coach Eelco Schattorie. The Coach, however didn't sound very optimistic about the team's chances in the tournament and stressed that he will handle problems as they come his way.

"No expectations from here. We will go and see what God gives us. I am disappointed with the preparations, so no expectations," Eelco was straightforward with his opinion.

Belo Rasaq is out with illness and that means Anupam Sarkar is back to the first team while Sheikh Azim retains his place in the defense. The search for creative midfielders continue and Lalkamal Bhowmick, Souvik Chakraborty and Tapan Maity are all expected to start.

The best news about the team is that Eric Brown is now fully fit and will join Ranti Martins and C.K.Vineeth in the team's hunt for the goal. The Purple Brigade is poised against a brand new Churchill Brothers side who have roped in new foreigners recently, but the Kolkata side will try to repeat the heroics of their dramatic 3-2 win against the Red Machines earlier this season.

Probable Squad: Jayanta, Deepak, Anupam, Hassan, Azim, Tapan, Lalkamal, Souvik, Eric Brown, C.K. Vineeth, Ranti Martins.
