|
30.09.2007:Houghton Confident Of Indian Victory Over Lebanon Indian coach Bob
Houghton is confident that his team has what it takes to progress past Lebanon in
next month’s 2010 World Cup qualifier. The South Asians are in Dubai in preparation
for the first leg of the clash in Beirut on October 8. The return match takes place
on October 24 and India are feeling good.
"We have shown that we are capable of playing and winning against better sides
such as Syria. I think we can beat Lebanon too," Houghton told Gulf News.
"We needed to get some wins to bring in a new winning attitude into the side. We
achieved this goal with our performance in the Nehru Cup last month," he added.
"We got five good games during the Nehru Cup due to the league format of the
competition. And the best thing was that we kept on improving with each game.
With the wins came a new confidence in the players and we need to live off this
confidence in our next assignments," Houghton stated.
"Now that we have the confidence, we need to aim for consistency and keep up
the hard work," the ex-China boss said.During their stay in Dubai, India will take on
UAE club Al Nasr on October 1 and Houghton is happy that the Mahindra United
players who were in action in last week’s AFC Cup game against Beirut outfit Al
Nejmeh will join up with the squad.
"We've had our share of problems such as injuries to key players like Mahesh
(Gawli) and Climax (Lawrence), said the Englishman.“But they are back now for
the camp. And the best thing is that Baichung Bhutia is looking much better this
year after stopping playing for the national team last season," he concluded.

U16 VfB Stuttgart team beat U19 India team by 4 - 3 goals

|
24.09.2007:The Indian team played passionately well in the first half of the game.
Indian team though tried to play strong and offensive football with few talented players in the
front, but there were few problems with the defence. In terms of finding rhythm,
the U19 Indian team did not get proper overview. Number of individual errors and
collective ones that gave, technically well controlled, U16 VfB Stuttgart team a
sniff of scoring goals. The coach of Stuttgart team Mr. Jens Keller commented that
the Indian team was quick and quite moving. They do not deserve 4 goals from
his team. From Indian side C.S. Sabeeth, Malsawmkima and Malsawmdawngliana
scored 1 goal each.

29th FED CUP:Kolkata fights for National pride
02.09.2007:Suman Saha: Kolkata
|
The Kolkata giants are all set to lock horns with the other superpowers
around the nation in the upcoming Federation Cup starting from 4th of
September when K.F. East Bengal is all set to take on their old city
rivals Mohammedan Sporting.
The main concern for both the teams would undoubtedly be their
defence which is found wanting in the first phase of the Kolkata Premiere
League. Mohammedan conceaded six goals in their derby against
East Bengal while the red and gold brigade also
conceaded four goals against Mohun Bagan.
|
|
It would be surprising to know that the team which conceaded the lowest number of goals in the
domestic league is Chirag United, the fourth team to represent Bengal in
the Fed Cup. Mohun Bagan along with their satisfactory midfield would be
concerned about their defence which was caught nappy in the first part
of the C.F.L. They conceaded three goals against East Bengal and two
against Peerless.
Among the weaknesses the Kolkata clubs will also be
benefited with the inclusion of their national camp players like Mehraj,
Manju, Baichung, Surkumar. Mohammedan and Chirag will also try to give
their best to complement the statement that football is a game of great
uncertainty. Last year the Fed Cup came to Bengal, this is the year to
make it two in a row and Kolkata Clubs will be eager to show of their
pedigree in the national circuit.

this commitment, this motivation" Look at Iraq. India should take a lesson from
the Iraqi team, who, in spite of such internal turbulences in the country have
never gave up their fight to regain their past glory in Asian football arena. Each
and every player of the Iraqi squad had lost his near and dear ones in the
on-going civil warin the country. Yet they practiced in neighboring Jordan for two
years with a single objective to make football their weapon against all the
atrocities and injustice inflicted against them."
According to Das Munshi, "if Iraq can, why cant we?" The AIFF
Vice President Mr. Subrata Dutta was equally vocal in expressing his gratitude to
the Indian footballers for making the entire country proud of them. He specially
thanked Sri Das Munshi for the elaborate arrangements extended to the footballers
by keeping them in 7-Star hotels, giving match incentives, providing them with
world class infrastructure etc., which had definitely tinkled the motivation of the
players to excel themselves in every match. In this respect, Sri Das Munshi is
no far behind the cricket administrators of our country - echoed Sri
Dutta. Sri Das Munshi specially thanked Baichuch to lead the team from the front.
" We need 11 more Baichungs in our team, we will again be then within 100 in
the FIFA ranking" reiterated Sri Das Munshi. In the year 1993 India was 99 in FIFA
World Ranking and again 94 in the year 1996 ( Feb) .
